Hello all,

Just a quickie, i posted a thread before about locksets and keys got a few ideas but i just had a new one and i just need some things to be cleared up before i go and purchase parts.

Basically i have a punto 60s 1998 1.2 it came with a red and blue key the red key will do everything except for open the drivers door, to open the drivers door i am require to use the blue key (different lock)

Now my question is if i purchase a complete lock set with a red and blue key but also purchase the immobliser unit corosponding to that red key can i just plug that immobliser into my ecu and use the new red key.
Or have i totally missed somthing? i am currently under the impression that the immobliser and ECU are seprate devices and that the immobliser is ajoined to the ECU via a cable.

Regards Greg

no.,., you would need the ecu aswell as the locks.,.,
get a copy of the red key and buy a remote CL kit off ebay., then you wont need the blue key to keep opening the doors all the time, they'll open by remote.,

heres a whole kit, if yours doesnt have manual central locking.,

And if your already has central locking without a remote.,

i assume the blue key does not start the car?

this is what i would do.

get a lock set (ignition, doors & boot) with a matching key (colour not important)
fit the locks to your car
replace the chip inside the new key with the chip from your old red key (open the key and you will find a small glass chip for immob)

now you have 1 key that works all locks and starts the car. (y)

the other easier option is to modify the lock barrel in your driver's door so it works with your red key. this is easy, you take the barrel out, then insert the red key, then you willl notice that not all of the tumblers are pulled into the barrel, any that stick out need to be ground down using a dremmel so they are flush with the lock barrel. now refit the lock and it will work with your key. any lock can be made to work with any key.

in the following image you can see the lock barrel has the wrong key inserted because there are 8 tumblers but 3 of them are sticking out. these 3 would need to be ground down slightly so they are flush with the lock barrel. this needs to be done on both sides of the barrel since car lock barrels have tumblers on both sides.
