Hi, My 2002 Punto 8 valve, starter motor as given up and I am in the process of sourcing another one! The problem is that for my year (apparently) There are 2 types , one with 8 teeth,or one with 9, how can I find out what I have without taking it off? I have been quoted £90 for either one ( which seems a bit excessive) but also was wondering if it is a job I could do myself ?

I dont know about a mk2 but i changed mine on my mk1, its by no means difficult (2 bolts i think). What i would say is if you can take it off and then take it to either a shop or a scrappy and compare it with what they have. Mine cost £10 from my local scrappy, they even took it off the scrap one for me so that saved me some time. All in all including the trip to the scappy the whole job took me about 1 1/2hrs. Get your self a haynes manual and off you go.
