Adding to your list I have heard: clutch, brakes and engine :D

But anyway, most garages say the same thing about every car because a customer wants to hear, "its not just your punto that is being an ass, its a common problem" even if there is no common problem.

Cheers,
Joel

NOT FORGETTING A NEW CAM BELT, VENTILATION UNIT, CLUNKING NOISE ON STEERING WHEN YOU REVERSE, MODIFACATION DONE TO REAR END TO STOP CREEKING ON REAR SUSPENSION, REVS ALL OVER THE PLACE(IN THE PROCESS OF GETTING SORTED) DOOR HANDLE REPLACES (LOST ITS COLOUR) SO FAR THIS AS WHATS GONE WRONG ONLY HAD THE CAR 3 MONTHS, BROUGHT BRAND NEW 53 REG FROM FIAT DEALER, QUICK TO SELL YOU THE CAR BUT NOT SO QUICK TO SORT PROBLEMS OUT!

Common faults are as Steve says... Common!

It's the way the Fiat dealers handle/don't handle the fault that's the problem.

Holy CRAP!

So far the only prob i've had with my 52 MK2 has been the door lock flap breaking (MK1 did that as well).

That said, my suspension does creak a lot (least i think it's that...bloody horrible constant squeaking noise)

I've heard exactly the same sort of stuff from main dealers and wont go near one with a barge pole now. Luckily I've found a very good independant Fiat/Alfa garage and the service is superb. I went in the other day with a clunking noise from the front nearside and came away 30 minutes later with a new track rod end fitted. Total cost 28 quid inc VAT.

OOOOPS, sorry! Should have mentioned them. It's called Alfatech and is in Huddersfield. Tel Number - 01484 428485. The guy I deal with was Fiat main dealer trained and knows his stuff.

the fiat/alfa in leeds (dixon south) is fantastic too! giving me a roof respray as mine went rusty. its a year out of warrenty too. gave me a new arial when i snapped mine. said they would replace the head gasket if mine goes as well. nice people.

sure all cars have common problems, but look at thew reliability surveys, fiat and alfa always hanging out with Jeep and Kia near the bottom

Met Cognac 99 Brava 100 HSX,

Hi Punto Girl. No, my clunking was whenever the wheel went over a bump. Pleased to report that all is fine now. It's an N reg Sporting 1600 with 80k on the clock and running fine.

Untrue Colm. Fiat finished 3rd in a major survey last year and 7th this year.

There is a very fine line between hobby and mental illness.

that survey was some internet based warranty company on a tiny number of cars which Subaru finished bottom of! IN the topgear car survey, the new punto finished 132nd out of 137, only beating the Mercedes M-Class Renault Laguna Peugeot 307 Renault Espace and Volkswagen Sharan, incidentally the alfa 156 fared better at 131st out of 137!

That's just not good - looks like the top Fiat is the Marea at what more than 3/4 the way down?

Isn't the top gear survey owner satisfaction rather than reliability though? that would mean that they might not be that bad reliability wise but parts are expensive and dealers are bad...

Either way you can see why fiat are losing money!

the fisrt survey was the topgear 2003 survey, the second the jd power 2001 reliability survey
