Hi there.

I currently have a 2000 (x reg) mk2 Fiat Punto Mia and there is stuff wrong with the existing engine as the head gasket has just recently went. So i have purchased a reconditioned engine of the EXACT same model as mine. It is still the 1.2 8v engine.

What im wanting to know is how easy it is to do the engine change and if there is anything i should watch or look out for when doing the job?

The new reconditioned engine that i have purchased has only covered just over 23,000 miles.

Please Help !!!

if you didn't let the car overheat when the gasket went, then it'll be a simpler job to change gasket and skim head (£65-150 job total).

a direct engine change isn't so bad,
hire an engine hoist from A plant (£22 a day at last usage for me:cool: ), and borrow a mate, you can do it in a day

Smyth much was the engine you bought as i also might be doing this next year... ?

The engine was £250 out of a FIAT Punto Mia 1.2 53 plate.

Just wondering - Im getting a really good mate of mine to do the engine change. He works for honda at Linwood in Glasgow. And says that it would only take a few hours to do.

The only part of the engine im changing is the block with everything in it/with it.

What is really driving me mad was the fact at when the previous engine overheated we realised that the Fan was not cutting in or going on when it was suppose to. Though the fan does work when we put power through it.

Has anyone got any idea as to what the problem could be? And if there is any solutions to resolving it?

I was going to just hand my car into an auto-spark garage that specialise in engine cooling.

Please HELP!!!!
