Sorry couldn't resist the bad joke.....

I''ve got a problem with my punto and this forumn really helped me last time....

I've got a 96 Punto thats just started making a knocking sound when I turn right. The weird thing is it's only when I'm accelerating around the corner? I can roll round the corner at speed or slowly and quiet as a mouse but as soon as I apply some power it starts to knock. Slower i'm going louder the knocking... It seems to be coming from the right hand side of the engine.

any idea's what could be wrong or how much it would cost to repair would be great? Many thanks in advance....... :slayer:

Thanks, CV Joint?

Is that easy to fix / expensive? Sounds like a welding job to me so way out of my league?

Also is there any way to test for sure?

Its the joint on the end of the driveshaft.

Go to a carpark, full lock and drive slow, you will get a clicking or knocking noise.

CV Joint is rubber no welding invloved look on the inner side of the wheel it could be loose or burst open if so get it fixed as soon is you can as it can seize the wheel the pic below is one thats burst...

the joint is actually three ball/needle bearings radially bolted onto the end of a shaft, it slides around and goes round and round, dispersing the upwards movement of the suspension without affecting the rotating movement of the shafts/wheels.

if the gaitor has split and allowed the precious grease out, then dirt will get in and wear though's bearings out very quickly, causing nasty noises, quickly followed by overheating and bearings seizing or exploding, both leading to a rather nasty accident if driving at speed.

if the gaitor is in good conidtion and the grease is in there, and you haven't been driving the car upto the wingmirrors in salt water the cv joint bearings should be fine, and you should look elsewhere for your clicking noise
