i payed £100 toget my mk2 punto sporting done if you want to travel to wolverhampton ill tell you the place no problem i have 40% tints on drivers and pasenger windows and 5% on back 3

Did you know that you can do it by yourself. You just need to buy that kind of paper. In my country it cost about 5 euro (1m x 1m) and you cut it by yourself.
You need to just use some kind of glass cleaner and that tint paper.I have tutorial how to do window tint for 5-6 euros, but its not on english language.
If you want,i will translate it and post it here.

DIY tints are not recommended. If you naff it up, you'll regret it until you rip it off again. Best leave it to the pros.

Tints on windscreen are illegal, obviously, and any after market tints are a grey area (no pun!) Technically they can leave the factory with tints allowing 80% of light through, or you can buy the car like it. But technically its illegal to have them added afterwards. But I see many Audi A8s with stupid tints on the front from the factory, but then police dont bother old people cause they have had a lifetime to realise how incompetent our laws are and are more likely to cause a fuss.

i thinnk the official line is, anything infront of the b pilllar is illigal..., you can have whatever you want on the rear 3

I did my own with the tint film from halfords. Its not that hard, a lot easier if you take the windows out and do it that way. I think it cost me about £25 altogether. I did only do the rear window and rear side windows. I didnt want to get done by the pigs. 26 producers in 5 years of driving, 3.5 years in this, thats enough for me! (Ive never been done for anything though) :)

be warned the police are cracking down on this i no that it isn't illegal to use tints but its the percentage of sunlight from the out side to inside IE police cant see you. then they pull you over use a sunlight device and if it fulls between a certain percentage your done for and that was from halfords window film.

please read ASAP before you do anything please

Hi,

The current regs on window tinting......

Road Vehicles (Construction & Use) Regulations 1986 as amended specify the minimum levels of light that must pass through the windscreen and front side windows. The limits are:

Motor Vehicles first used before 1 April 1985:
The windscreen and front side windows must allow at least 70% of light to be transmitted through them.

Motor Vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1985:
The light transmitted through the windscreen must be at least 75%. The front side windows must allow at least 70% of light to be transmitted through them.

If the glass is tinted to a point whereby it lets through less light, then the vehicle does not meet legal requirements.

Its legal to tint your front windows, but only very lightly. Most modern vehicles come out of the factory with around 72% VLT therefore meaning that you can tint them, but only by around 2% (hardly noticeable.

Cheers,
Alan

Good news for tinted window lovers in New Zealand.
We're allowed 35% VLT on the front side windows. :)

The window tint shop that I visited last week appeared to be really confused by my question of what film they could apply to my Punto Sporting's windows in order to stay within the 35% limit. The film itself is 35% and I tried to convince them (with a sheet of white paper) that the Punto's windows were already tinted (from the factory).

However one of the experts opened a door and studied the glass for some time before telling me that there was no tint applied. :bang:

Then the boss man came over and sorted it all out by telling me that the 'tinting' from the factory was actually in the glass (no? Really? ;)) and therefore it doesn't count towards the 35% rule. Eh?!

So therefore, in New Zealand, you're allowed to add a 35% tint film to the front side windows, in addition to any tint that was there from the factory... !

Interesting, I'm sure you'll agree. Now, normal service resumes :)

well im screwed den coz my front doors only let 50% thru and bk 3 r limo blk as i had them re done last week lol  cost me £60 as i no some1 hu dus it 4 a job (y)

In my country, law says nothing abbout this, so cops can do what they like...
Basically they cannot write you a ticket, but can use this as an explanation why they stoped you, and after they allready stoped you, they can find something else, or keep pushin "Ill write you a ticket" until you say, OK here's a 20 eur for your lamb chop and beer (n)

How can I chek how much % are mine? All i know is its a film, and it's a Foliatec Midnight reflex, but nothing more that makes sense at a first glance is written on them...and when I google all I get are German sites, and I dont speak German, but if I'm right I managed to understand its a 85%??
What figures or marks to look for on my folia? :D
