Heat shield

On my wifes punto 55 (93 model) the heatshield is loose and rattling

Can this just be removed for good.

Reason I ask is same thing happened last year on my Impreza, took it to main subaru dealer who just removed them and said not really required in countries with a climate like ours

Thanks

Unhappy Re: Heat shield

I have seen people removing them but they normally protect your car against the extreem heat of the cat and if you take your car on a long or hard drive round a track the exhaust can glow red with heat. heat shiel is there to stop the car parts under it like somtime fuel lnes or brake lines from getting hot.

Also if you take a heat shield away and drive the car the exhaust at 300odd degrees will slowly heat up the cars body and paint will peel or you carpets will melt.

Re: Heat shield

Exhaust manafold stops fan wires and your radiator getting hot. still try to fix it.normally a couple of std car bolts and two washers will replace the old ones and stop the rattle.
