Hi, just bought a 2002 1.2 16V ELX speedgear - the problem is that when I push the brake - the car starts to slow down like it should, but just before a comlete stop it shakes a bit and than stops. Also similar thing happens after the engine is started and the shifting stick is moved from "P" position to "D" - it 'shakes' a bit (it isn't that bad - but noticeable) - the whole car 'vibrates' for a while  Is this normal behavior? Or something is wrong with the gearbox?

Thanks for your help.

From anthing to D or R the car shakes a tiny bit to get into gear, nothing major though.

oh yeah.. the car usually vibrates a bit when the battery is being used alot.. maybe yours needs changing.

thanks for your reply - just discovered that this "shaking" goes almost completely away after the engine runs for a while :) maybe the liquid needs to get to certain temperature to operate normaly.

And the car on your avatar looks exactly like mine (y) and is beautiful :D how long do you own it? any major trouble at all? I just got mine 2 weeks ago - so still learning things about it ... any advice/tip welcomed ;)

37.230 km on it so far - at 40.000 need some checks to be done ... all the fluids look good, but will change them anyway ;)

ok lets see what they have to say ...

BTW today I played around with audio and found a SVC feature (y) should be Speed Volume Control if not mistaken - but couldn't try it yet ... how does it work? if I set the volume for example to 25 and speed up from 40 km/h to 100 km/h will it go up cca. 30% ? or it has preset volume levels for certain speeds???

How long does the 'shake' last for when selecting drive?

Is it better when it's hot or worse?

talked to some repair guy yesterday and assured me that the "shaking" is normal :) it's just the way the auto gearboxes put in the gears ...

Thanks anyway

so you're saying that when you move the shifting stick from "P" to "R" or "D" while the engine is running, nothing at all happens ?!?! no noise and you don't feel how the clutch puts the gear in ??? and the rpm doesn't change at all neither

well than something is wrong with mine :( cause I can definetly tell when the gear gets in ...

You can feel moment when clutch is engaged (it shakes slightly), and RPM drops down about 50.
On mine, RPM is about 650 in P and just under 600 in D. I was wondering what RPM's yours has when in D because on 600 RPM my engine is starts to shake a little like it's going to stall. Also I was wondering if my driving style is correct: when I'm get caught in traffic and not moving for more then 30-40 sec I always shift to N. I don't know if I should do that, since on my way home I'm usually do that 4-5 times (10per day)?
Just for comparison, my speedgear does 60 MPH on 1950 RPM and 75MPH on 2400 RPM in D, in 6th rpms are about 300 higher.

my RPMs in "P" are around 900 and when changed to "D" it drops about 50-100 RPMS also when AC is on and high beams on the RPMs start to fluctuate in the range of 900 - 600 RPMs - and when reaching 600 I can feel the "pre-stall" too

is this normal? I guess the battery gets used a lot in these conditions, but shouldn't it hold the RPMs constantly?

I think putting the "N" in is OK - but heard that when going down hills - it is not good! Should keep the gear in. Should it be this way?

Hi
It might be worth changing the gearbox oil with the oil filter as this needs changeing for sure at 24000, maybe it has not been done..

Hope this helps

Rod

yes going to change it at 40.000 and hope it was changed at 20.000 but can't be sure :( the color of the gearbox oil looks good though - nice and clean no dirt :) have no idea about the filter ...

Can I look at the filter somehow by myself? Or it needs the whole gearbox apart?
