hey i have my first car, 04 reg punto 1.2 8v and it is sooo slow.. im already throwing all my money away on the insurance as it is... can anyone give me any pointers on whats the cheapest and best way to just make it that bit quicker n prefererably undetectable by insurance companies or that can be removed.. thanks..

Well....abrath stuff (y)

You can just say its standard fiat body add-ons that the car came with from the dealership as you just buy them from fiat dealerships but watch out for fakes if buying off the web or ebay :eek:

Also, do not grace this forum if you plan to add lexarse lights to the car (lol only kiding but they look naff)

thanks, dont worry no lexus lights are going on my car... im thinking about gettin a mk2 boot lid though i dont like those stipud reflecters on the boot lid.. where can i get abarth parts from or genuine fiat parts iv been on their website but theres no link to any aftermarket stuff.. please help..

At this point, you are reminded that any modification to the car which changes the characteristics of a car should be relayed to your insurance company. Anything which makes your car faster will increase your insurance premium as the car is a higher risk.

Having said that. The most likely route is something like a panel air filter, uprated cam, bigger bored throttle body, and an ECU re-map. This mayadd up to about 50%.

Congratulations on your first car-good choice! But did you really expect the 1.2 8v to be fast?...even slightly? As for all those engine modifications, they certainly will improve performance-but when you implement them on a car whose performance is soo low, are they really cost effective? Im probably starting to sound like a parent now! but i reckon your better off spending it on something else!

Its all part of having fun with your first car though! But I agree excessive spending probably isn't worth it with this car (unless you're willing to spend $$$$$ doing it properly). Then on top of that is insurance costs, like Adam said.

I say keep 'performance' mods to a minimum (y) Concentrate getting it looking smarter for now.

Could just drop a 1.4 turbo engine from the old mk1 punto, however i suspect you insurance company may notice the diffrence.

And I'd say exactly the opposite!

Keep it looking as standard as possible, spend the money where it counts, on the suspension, brakes and then, and ONLY then, on the engine!

By all means finish it nicely, but don't spend loads on plastic body kits and other rubbish!

You guys do know that this thread is 5 years old and the original poster probably doesn't care as he is most likely to not have the car anymore :LOL:

Haha hadn't spotted that one!

Wonder why lj dragged it all up again?

Must check post dates, must check post dates.

You never know, he MIGHT still own the car and be looking for advice on making it go faster! Can we say "silk purse from a sows ear?"

<runs and hides>
