Dear fellow-fiat-ers,

It seems that possibly my gear box or clutch is giving me some problems. Changing gear to reverse gives the of lovely grating/crunching sound plus there is a bit of "stickyness" when changing in the lower gears , but not the higher. There is also that burning smell. Model is Fiat Punto 1.2 8V, Year 2000 with 56K miles. Any ideas please?

Seems like yours is getting like mine, sticky (2nd gear doesn't happen in a hurry neither) in most gears, 4th and 5th are better but sometimes still fail to engage first time.

Just get a newer one (g'box) or try a new clutch, mine is possibly like this as clutch is worn badly and is not disengaging fully, mk2 puntos have a common thing of eating a clutch every 18months or so, so change it first. Then if the problem isn't much better new or recon gearbox is on the cards.
