Found a fiat punto from 04 driven 160 000km for a 1,5k €. How should I be prepared for repairs and stuff? This would be my first car.

Thanks!

Oh and also it's a 1.2 if it helps. Am I able to install aux to it?

Looks expensive for the Mileage to be honest.

You can install a custom head unit with aux / usb / cd player / bluetooth etc.

It looks like it's in a pretty good condition tho... How much should they be at this milage?

And it's a company selling it, not private... There is a vw golf 2 door they are trying to sell me for 900€ 200 000km should I take it instead? Am I getting hustled?

As said, expensive for year. Without seeing any car it's difficult to judge real prices. Take a look in the cars for sale mags & you'll get a feel for prices at least. First car, I would take someone along who knows about these things. Family member or mate. Best of luck.:)

If it's your first car then the punto is likely a better option.

An old golf is likely to have had a hard life and has certainly, done more KM, also we wary of the dealer being desperate to sell you the cheaper car, suggests they might be keen to off load it due to known issues.

The little punto is fairly simple for a first car and where problems may exsist they are not expensive to repair.

Have a look around the internet to see what other similar cars sell for in your area to gauge if the price is good or not

Yeah guys i'm located in finland if that helps

Bit more choice in Finland. I'd go for the Punto, but maybe I'm biased.

My father said that fiat is a ****ty brand and I should get a japanese/german car... Should I listen to him? In my opinion the punto looks great and my friend has it and it would suit great for me but i'm scared that it breaks easily like my father keeps saying...

At the end of the day it doesn't matter what you get, all cars no matter what brand break down and will have problems at some point in their lives. Everyone has family members with stories of cars/brands they avoid as they had a bad experience with them. My family have had lots of problems with a BMW, a Porche, Renualt and Ford.

If money isn't a huge problem, go for anything you want! If you are a student and this is your first car that is probably not the case and you want to be a little more careful.

At the end of the day: If you buy a Fiat and it breaks down,.... parts are cheap! If you buy a VW and it breaks down,.... parts are very expensive! Also if you buy a modern car,.. parts often have to be imported or large units replaced,.. again expensive. If you buy a older/modern classic (like the punto) parts are easy to get from local scrap yards or online.
Something to take into consideration.

For my first car I had the choice,.. Fiat Punto 2004 or VW Golf 2005... same price... I preferred the look of the Punto,.. but people told me stories of Fiat quality, people also told me of that VW "german build quality"
However I looked up reviews of both,.. and parts for both and that quickly changed my mind as I was a starting student with a very tight budget.

Hope that helps!

Im still not so clear about that will it break down quicker than for example a VW.... I wouldn't want to be replacing parts all the time specially with my tight budget

For two cars of this age no one can say which is more likely to breakdown (unless a detailed inspection was carried out on each car and even that is not fool proof). Reliability is often described as a "bathtub" curve when plotted as a graph, Low reliability when new due to manufacturing mistakes etc, a long period of reliability and then a increase in failures as parts wear out. Bout cars are probably heading to the ends of the bathtub. Ask your self why the )(apparently more desirable) VW is cheaper? I think it indicates something.
Have you checked insurance costs? some models are more expensive. Will the dealer give a warranty (not one you pay for with a different company)?
Look at parts prices locally e.g. "drop links" brake disks and pads, Rear exhaust. These are wearout parts on both cars.
Are you getting as good advice on the VW forum?
