Hi folks (sorry for the rudeness first of all)

I’m panicking a bit as the other half’s mk2b 1.2 8v radiator fan has died.

Does anyone know if I need a Marelli replacement as that’s what’s in there now, or can I put a Valeo in there?

Basically, I’m not sure if they are both compatible?

Any help folks would be greatly appreciated

Thanks bud, I think the other half has ordered one that seems to correspond with the number on eper which is the one of the three shown that doesn’t mention air con. It’s a valeo one. I just wondered about the fitting locations and also the wiring loom, wondered if they had different connectors.

Also if I changed to the other brand fan, would it just be the case of same brand radiator & possibly wiring loom, or does it involve other components, any idea bud?

Ziggy - the fan is dead bud, I’ve tried running power straight to it & it’s not playing ball
Scudmonkey - yes I tried getting Multiecuscan to spin it & it comes back ‘failed to execute’, that’s why I had a feeling the fan/wiring/relays & fuses might be at fault

Recently had a sei with a dead fan
I found using a drill to spin it a little helped
Followed by bumping the fan (spinning it) while power was applied meant i could get it going again

Now it.spins at full speed again

Ziggy

the easiest way to get the right fan is to count the blades and swap in a replacement accordingly
if you buy the fan and housing from a breakers depending which one you buy it doesnt always line up with the upper bracket and these seize so modifications were necessary to secure it or get this out of the breaker too if it undoes
i did a guide for the fan fuse positions some years ago under guides if that helps

Thanks again bud. I’ll try n have a go at it hopefully when the wet stuff stops falling out the sky and if I can juggle some time between my shifts. I’ll give u an update as soon as I can. Hopefully the motor is just stuck like you explained earlier[emoji106]

Sorry bud, I’ve just this second seen your post. It’s a 6 blade Magnetti Marelli and she’s got a 2005 2b Active. My 2001 mk2 Sporting seems to have the same fan. I looked on eper & the data for her car shows confusing data. You would think you could easily go by the data shown, but for her model it shows Valeo or Denso.

As there was no Marelli fan shown for her car, I thought I’d just look up the data for my model, and ironically (although mine is a 16v with aircon) it shows at the bottom it was also put in the 2U version as well as my 1N Sporting....confused! Lol

I had similar anomalies when I tried getting a front brake piston seal for my Sporting a few months ago. - in the end, Bigg Red kindly found out for me that my mk2 Sporting has mk1 front brake callipers - wtf!
