Tuning air filter mod

Tuning air filter mod

I refer you to my previous comment, it's a 70hp 1.3 diesel, it's already forced induction so a fancy pipe and filter is not going to make a shred of difference.

i do get that. as stated at start the problem is witt me not getting enough air to the added fuel from chip, so i get wasted fuel and wasted power.. im only asking if this kit will supply more air not more power, i need more air so i can turn on my chip and that will combine into power. or not?

btw, i gave up on egr and manifold, imposible for me... maybe id get them down somehow but getting them back on would be a dizaster. gona try that egr spray cleaner and hope it cleans it abit.. worth a try.

i also disconected or found a connector in the engine bay that i cant locate the other half LOL... so i started it and all work fine but u never know what that connection is for. gona have to post tomorow if anyone with a 1.3 can find where my missing link is haha

I think it's more likely that the chip is not matched to the engine properly and this is the problem with a generic plug in box

You can only get a finite amount of air in as the turbo waste gate will open and dump the excess.

The turbo can only provide a certain amount of compressive force, based on the amount of gasses passing out of the exhaust.

Adding a different air filter will not change any of this, and this is the last time I'm going to say it, because it's getting silly now.

If you don't want to listen fine, go waste your money and bolt whatever you want on.

well cleaning the intake + egr and manifold helped abit, not completly.

one last question... if i take the filter off and put hand before the maf senzor and someone revs the engine i feel alot more suction than with the filterbox on and havine a hand in the entrance there. thats why i asked. but ok..

btw i used crc egr cleaner/(spray) to clean egr and manifold trough the intake, i know this isnt even close to dissasembly and acual cleaning but there was no other way, anyways after some time of the spraying at engine on 2k rpm, the engine started give out noise, nothing specific just like if air is going out trough some hole that isnt ment for that, on the left side of the engine. it didnt do that at start. will check if the noise is still there tomorow. but it was really waird and i stopped spraying, no leakage or anything just unusual air sound

The "Chip" you have fitted is just an over fuelling device. It is a little bit more advanced than the ones with just a resistor in that you can select up to 4 settings. Where is it connected to?
A remap will always be better.

I looked a bit more into Italan Speed website and terms and conditions. I note the following

There is no contact address or company registration number on the Italain Speed website.

The first condition is "The products intended for use in automotive (chiptuning for gasoline or diesel and systems for the elaboration, electronics, of the engines) can be used only and exclusively for racing use (sports) in closed circuits, private circuits or private areas." in otherwords not legal for road use. Nowhere on their homepage or product descriptions do they mention race use or that it's not road legal.

Despite their comments about remapping damaging engines and having no warranty, their warranty says "The company assumes no responsibility for any damage caused to persons and / or property, caused by the products purchased" so if the engine blows up they don't care unless their unit was faulty (who can tell?).

To return the goods (your right under EU law) you first have to send them a registered letter. See comment above on no address. Email is not acceptable to them.

For my car (1.9 16V mJTD Croma) they claim a 30% increase in power along with a 21% reduction in fuel consumption. This is clearly contradictory and probably impossible. Trouble is if it increases the fuel pressure, the consumption reported by the trip computer will be less as it assumes correct fuel pressure (fuel flow is calculated from injector design flow rate and open time). From the install description https://www.italianspeed.eu/en/easy-installation-2-c it clearly just messes with the fuel pressure signal causing over fuelling.

The parent company are Extremengineering Srl who are behind other front companies like Drake box.

their addres is stated in terms of service section under number 5.

so i bought a usless chip? shauld i remove it?. i know a remap is better but cost more and everythig. i wanted a cheap easy bump up, i know the car doesnt have 100hp like they state but its abit better anyways.

what would u recomomend? dich the chip? which chip manufacturer do u recomend?

i checked alot of revievs and videos af the chip. i do belive the chipe does make some differance in power, for me it was quite noticable, for the bare 90€ u cant expect to get the best thing.. but performance/value wise the italianspeed is one of best.i talked alot with them over email they helped alot. but i do belive every chip manufacturer has the "we arent responsible for any damage" in their terms of service.

Hi,
I missed that address. It's not in the contacts section though and is not for Italian Speed.
I would not recommend any of the fuelling modification boxes. They are not "Chips" or Chip tuning" in the established sense. Proper chip tuning is a type of re-map for ECU's where the map is in PROM and the memory ic "chip" has to be replaced. Modern ECUs use re-programmable memory (EEPROM or Flash) so the chip is not changed. The fueeling modifiction box makers have mis-approprated the term to make their products sound high tech. Some do have chips, op-amps or possibly even microprocessors, but many do not. You can't tell with your box as it is potted i.e. filled with resin so you can't take it apart or see what is inside.
Increaing fuel pressure, which is what these boxes do, puts strain on the fuel pump and other components and can lead to all sorts of issues. If you have a DPF the overfuelling will cause it to block more often and may even damage it and or the catalyst.
They are just a bodge that makes your car illegal to use on the road and invalidates your insurance.

understandable, so its a cheap wnb powergain, it still gives some power, i also am afraid of the side efects if it is as bad as u say.. it is what it is now.. gona roll with it until the car dies anyways :D
for fun, im gona email the italianspeed and ask them if i can see whats inside the acual chip(things we cant see.) but as u say, my can maybe be somekind of chip, but its more liky fueling box?

how to know if a chip is legit than? higher price?

Hi,
No, price is no indication of quality. Some sellers will price high just because buyers associate price with quality. A shiny box and slick website means nothing. Any tuning box that just plugs into a fuel pressure, MAF or MAP sensor is a fuelling bodge.
The only sensible option is a re-map.

my conects to common rail, is that the fuel pressure ur reffering to?, a legit chip shauld be connected to egr or what?

will check into remap. but i think im done with the car as it is. still remap prices r high if not mistaken... maybe next car ill take more serious tuning, this one is more of a ricer anyways

Hi,
Yes, the electrical unit on the end of the common rail is the high pressure sensor. All a box connected between this and the connector that was plugged in can do is reduce the signal from the sensor. The ECU then thinks the fuel pressure is low and adjusts the regulator to bring the signal up to the proper level. The real fuel pressure is now higher than it should be. This causes more fuel to be injected than the ECU has demanded. Immediate effect is apparently more power, but there are other effects. It's a complex interaction as the ECU is also measuring the lambda sensor(s), MAF etc.
