So I brought a cheap Y reg Punto as my first car, and have had a few minor niggles with the clutch slipping, the rev whilst idling when starting ranging from 600/700 - 1100 rpm(and it fluctuates between these) and an odd vibration whilst idling to name the most prevalent.

But to the big problem, today when I got in the car I engaged the clutch to put it in first and it went farther than normal and it would not return. I can move it myself, but with the engine running the clutch does not engage any more. Also the brakes feel alot more solid.

I suspect, after some research on here, that its one of the cylinders has failed. The dot4 fluid is midway between the min/max lines on the reservoir (could do with a top up but was full 3 months ago if that's any indication).

Can anyone confirm or lend any other suggestions as to these issues?

If you had a clicking noise lately when pressing the clutch down, the release bearing may have gone through the fingers on the clutch plate, common fault. First check the slave cylinder for leaks, failing that,it's far box out for new clutch .
