So, as per the threads about the MK2B 1.2 8v engine possibly being the one from the GPs I recently had to do a cam cover gasket replacement due to the bog standard leakiness. Funny thing though is that the gasket I got (from ECP!) is the right one for the MK2 1.2s but not for my MK2B :( For those of you that have changed a gasket you know that at each end there are two half circle protrusions that the gasket has to go over and the recommendation is to put a little bit of sealant either side of both half circles.
Well......the engine in mine has the two half circles, but one protrudes up and the other is indented down into the head. I called ECP and asked which gasket I needed and they couldn't find one, as I was doing this late on a Saturday I had no choice but to put the old gasket back on but I used a thin bead of sealant all round inside and outside the gasket. Have to say it is (currently) working fine!

Anyone else with a later MK2B with the 8v engine come across this?

Oh, if anyone wants it I've still got the gasket, the packet has been opened but it unused. A tenner shipped an it is yours :)

Click to see the part, well a nice generic box but it should fit the 'normal' MK2B 1.2 8v engines, the ones the same as the one from this guide:

https://www.fiatforum.com/punto-mk2-2b-guides/340549-1-2-8v-cam-rocker-cover-gasket-change.html

One thing about the engine in mine, there are 6 bolts holding the cam cover on at the top (not 4 from the earlier engines), then 3 hold the coil pack to the cover that also need to be removed on the right hand side.

So....I've been doing a little bit of digging and the later MK2Bs do indeed have the GP 1.2 8V engine and the gasket is completely different. As you can see from the images from eper the GP engine has an up and a down end on the gasket, the MK2 and early MK2Bs have two up ends!

Depending on production some mk2b did get the round oil cap 1.2 8v setup

Tbh i got sick of mine leaking (wedge style oil filler cap) i decided to go extreme
I have scrapped the gasket and using instant gasket goo and bonded the rocker to the head
Yes its gonna be a bitch to remove
However ive not had bolts coming loose issues and ive not gotnoil leaking no more

Still leaking out coil pack tho...

Sorry to jump on this thread, but seemed more sensible than starting another, given its a rocker gasket question.

I was going to do mine tomorrow - had the gasket lying round for couple weeks. Its from ECP, and matched via my reg plate, I know mine is a 188 engine, however, the label on the bag for the gasket says its 199. It looks the same as on mine, but difficult to tell as its folded over in the bag.

Are they the same gasket or do I need a trip to ECP in the morning before I get the spanners out?

Thanks

Finally got round to doing this this afternoon. Not had chance with weather and health issues.

This is probably a random question - According to the trusty Haynes, the four bolts securing the rocker gasket get tightened to 8 mN? ...... doesnt seem too much - I reckon I could just about get it that tight with my fingers!

If thats correct, all well and good ..... probably went a little higher (9-10) due to the scale on the torque.

I'm gutted, after 4 years of problem free motoring, looks like the camshaft seal has gone on my 1.4 16v.

Have oil coming down the side of the sump :(

I've got new cambelt and waterpump that need to be done anyways so looks like its going to be a busy weekend :(

Just for when photobucket take the picture down, here it is from a different site..

One thing, item 4 on the picture on the left is an O-Ring, it shows as being separate but on the gasket I got from my local official Fiat dealers it is built into the gasket and not a separate part.
Also you'd like to think that a cam cover with 6 bolts holding it down would make a better seal than the earlier engines with only 4 bolts holding it down, doesn't seem to be the case though.
The gasket I removed was pretty hard, still flexible and not cracking but no give in it, the new gasket was spongier so should give a better seal.
