Hi all I'm abit confused with this problem so i hope you can help.

Ive been having trouble getting into gear although I don't think that's the best way to describe it.
Every now and then my rpm goes threw the roof and I pick up no speed then I'll get a burning smell n smoke coming from the bell housing. I'll pull up wait a few min then pull off fine.

I'm at a loss I think its the clutch but I had that replaced about a year and a half ago and I've done 9k since so I carnt of worn it out already.

But like I said its doesn't do it all the time its only every now an again. Anyone got any ideas?

Is oil leaking from the bottom of the bell housing, between engine and gear box.if so you could have oil leaking from engine or gear box seal, this could case your issues.

It is your clutch , sorry to give bad news, find receipt and take it back to place that changed it.

If the clutch works normally but then occasionally does not work is the problem forced to be the clutch itself?

Could it be some other weird problem related to the foot pedals? Broken weld there or something?

The first thing to look at seems to me to test the clutch for normal operation when the car is hill started and so forth to ensure the clutch can really work normally.

Good point , explain to the OP how to check everything out him/herself.

If the clutch is slipping it will get hot...hotter it gets more it slips.
Once it has been allowed to cool a little it will bite again.
Generally if the rpm increases and speed doesn't that is clutch slip.
As others have pointed out it is also worth checking the oil seal on the gearbox, if that is knacked it will cause the clutch to slip, even a brand new clutch.
