Hello ladies and gents need your help
My mate has done engine swap for me as my other 1.2 8v was making horrid noises and wanted nice low millage one as this one has only 51k so happy days, and he's only charging me 100£, however
1- 100£ is cheap for an engine swap isn't it? Straight swap n all
2- he's said although its a low millage engine he would advise to have cam belt and water pump changed if I want to! I've said ok however he is charging
£80 for water pump kit
£20 for the belt
And £25 to fit is this cheap?
He also got me a set of hide iridium plugs he's charging me 20£ for them!
Engine was 130£ delivered
So altogether engine swap, cam belt and water pump chmage, the engine and the new plugs is about 300£ I think

What's your opinion
Thanks
Devante

Just get the Gates Power Grip kit everything included except the black RTV should cost under £70.

Good grief , your friend is doing you a MASSIVE favour doing a heck of a lot of work for next to nothing. Friend also given you great advice about cam belt etc
You should give him at least an extra £50 just as goodwill and you will still be getting everything mega mega cheap.

Bite his hand off at once, as Jack has said your friend is doing you a massive favour indeed. Very, very cheap. Just ring around a few garages or go online & ask prices, you'll pee your pants at what you will find....:D

gents
Guess how much
Cars had loads man

new clutch(not sure how much like £60), new cam belt and water pump kit (100£) all new gearbox oil and engine oil and filters lol plus cost of swap and to fit clutch and water pump etc and oils

Guess how much

he's just said the engine has flat spot between 2 and 3k revs what does he mean? And whats the cause?

Also he said the speedo now doesn't work !!
Probably forgot to plug speed sensor back in....
As he will have had to use ur loom and engine ecu
If the new engine had abs - then its missing loom for speed sensor, as abs cars do theirs via abs sensors

As for flat spot
Ensure timing is correct - 1 tooth out can cuase issues
Also the ecu may need a reset to allow the phlonic wheel relearn - as the ecu is running ur new engine like ur old one and there are going to be some changes!

Ziggy

As pointed out by ziggy, if he has used a new engine loom from a newer car or one with abs then all the sensors may not be present and causing the speedo issue, there is also the potential that the flat spot is being caused by poor running as a result of the electronics not being right

he's fitting new sensor in week was 54£ for it!!!
This engine is making a metal grinding noise fgs man doing my head in
And horn didn't work bur got piece of wire and connected it to to battery it'd just a lose connection so that's ok
God knows about that noise hope nothing wrong !!!!!!!!

What jack said, mon. Your friend sounds like this guy:

Metal grinding noise after engine swap is usually the lower tinplate on bottom of gearbox that's there to stop debris getting between flywheel and gearbox casing its probably just slightly bent onto flywheel they make a terrible noise when this happens
