Technical Suspension top mount

First time i removed my mk2 strut bolts and nuts it took me 2 days!!! Yes 2 days!
I spent ages wacking it with a lump hammer etc

Im sure if a mechanic had a big nasty air chisel/hammer itd come out alot quicker

The rear lower strut bolts snapped

Got onto my mk2b and both came out soo easily....
Now there copper slipped to the eyeballs im almost sure i could get em out with mega force

If u have removed a head of a bolt or a nut - ur not secure

And the punto doesnt have any alignment option with the bottom ball joints / hub bolts / too strut
It kinda is 2 position only give or take a wee wee wee anount

As I only worked on one nut and bolt. I wrapped 7 zip ties around it and drove it 10miles slowly to my nephews garage and left it with him to sort.
If all the bolts are like the 1st one at least it's at a garage now.

Car is now back and working great. No more knocking.
Drivers spring had snapped. And top mounts had collapsed.

Fitted new shocks and springs and new top mounts that I proved. And under seal full car £80 :)

Forget what I just said. Went for a spin and still bloody knocking.
Am at a lose what it can be now.

Need any info if you have any that I can't check.

Anyone has part number for the strut bolts and nuts. Or a link to buy them from.

So what is in there now? Still the cable ties?

Measure the original bolts and check their grade. I'd expect them to be 10.9.
Try here: http://www.westfieldfasteners.co.uk/
Get 10.9 nuts too.

This is unlikely to be the knock though.

Despite all the posts in this thread, I still don't think you've confirmed or denied whether you've actually replaced the anti-roll bar links. They can appear good but still knock.

Cheers for that, i have found the bolts/nut £21 for full 4. as they had to be drilled out i just got harden bolts to go back in, so now they will come out easier i will replace with the right bolts.

The anti roll bar end bush's have been replaced yes. i don't think the mk2 has drop links.

If still knocking have to look a little further and in more detail.

Bottom arm pivot bushes.
Bottom ball joints.
Steering rack rod ends at the hub.
Steering rack ball joints inside the rack gaiters.

Rear shock absorber bushes. Noises here can feel and sound as if at the front of the car.

Had a good look at it today. Refitted the old passenger top mount to driver side and the noise went away. But still a clunking noise. After giving everything a smack with pull bar. Drivers driveshaft is ****ed. Getting that done tomorrow

Apologies for dragging this thread up!

Replaced the second wishbone (passenger) on the car this weekend. Driver was done couple of weeks ago. This one only took two hours compared to SIX for the other side. Have also replaced the ARB bushes behind the hubs .. old ones looked ok, but as it had to be disconnected anyway, might as well do them.

Anyway, driver arm was completely fu**** - ball joint wiggled like hell, rear bush just fell out!!

Passenger arm ball joint was the same, but a bit more strength in the bushes, but not looking fantastic

However, as above from other poster, I still have a knocking / clunking noise - which can also be felt through the floor of the car (or that's how it appears. It does appear to be better than it was previously though (so expect it would be inter linked?)

It has been over an MOT pit, and was told the struts and bushes looked ok.
