Hello, just looking for some advise on a couple problems on my punto.

at the moment when I accelerate (say out of a junction) the car seems to do an initial bite of the clutch were it moves, then it slows down and the engine rpm will raise but the speed of the car seems to lag behind then sometimes the car will judder violently and then it will sort itself out. This mainly happens in first gear put will happen all through the range at any time I get onto the throttle sometimes the car will judder just coming off the throttle at low speeds.

sometimes this seems to cause an engine misfire but the engine will run smooth before all this happens. engine temp doesn't seem to make a difference. Car also seems to begin to bog down and misfire when even going up the slightest hill and I often see myself getting passed by trucks and tiny cars as it I go down the gear box into 3 and second on the dual carriageway just to try and get the car to pull and maintain speed.

Plugs seemed fine they were last checked and have been replaced when I was getting a firing issue before.
previously had an engine light saying failure of one of the coil packs which was replaced with a second hand part which sorted that out.

when the car misfires I seem to get fault code reading random misfire and P0420 (cat system below efficiency) which maybe is caused my access fuel from the misfiring cylinder?

I should also mention that I cleaned the throttle body out but the previous person who worked on that car has zip tied the airbox onto the throttle body as they have broken the plastic mounting part but it seems to still go on fine and I cant see that being too much of an issue.

hoping that the issue inst major as I have had such bad luck with this car already replaced the exhaust because it fell off on me over a speed bump, replaced the front offside tyre twice as they both blew on the same piece of road within a day of the first one going. overhauled the rear breaks as I could walk the car when the parking break was on and it was super dodgy on hills. and now it feels like its almost bottoming out whenever I go over a bump when it has people in the back darn it! :bang:

so as it stands at the moment I think I am getting possible 2 main issues first being the clutch slipping and then secondly the misfiring but I am no ways a mechanic and this is my first car so I am hoping if anyone on here with some experience could throw some ideas as I am probably completely wrong lol

What happens if you run the car without the air filter? Do you still get that juddering as you come off the throttle at low speeds? Have you checked the inlet manifold is secure? Does your car have a mass air flow sensor on the inlet manifold?

If the clutch really slipping? Should be quite easy to work that out if you pull away from a steep hill.

Hi mate,

Ran the car without the air filter for a couple of days not long ago it felt like it maybe improved the issue a slight bit but i don't know as its an intermittent problem, didn't seem to happen as often though with no air filter.

Inlet manifold seems on secure as checked when I cleaned the throttle body. Think it has a maf or map sensor in the manifold when I checked the sensor looked clean.

what happens when starting on a hill i have to slip the clutch alot to get the car going and then when off the clutch and accelerating the revs will fly up and the speed of the car will slowly go up while the car is shaking itself to pieces. also get a rattle/knocking from the front of the car while this happens seems to go when the clutch is disengaged, happens on accelerating and when the car gets a bit of a load e.g. on slight hills etc.

i have the exact same problem, sort of.. soon as im coming out of a junction, and its not all the time, but my clutch doesnt want to come up, the revs are there and power but it moves off slowly... and felt like it wanted to stall. i think mines either clutch, or the hydrolic fluid thing... as a mate from work said it could be that.. just because it does look like its been leaking
