Hi can somebody please tell me if a 1.2 16v automatic alternator is different from a manual car. Tia

what year is your car ?
have you tried going on to popular parts websites
entering your registration and looking for alternator , usually in the electrical section?
or even look on eper
there is link to eper near top near middle on fiat forum pages.

ok there are several options for your car , air con and power steering make a difference.
how many groves in pulleys make a difference.

year of manufacture makes a difference.

Hiya thanks for your reply. I'm getting one of scrap yard as car got an oil leak not worth fixing. On recommendation of garage had the engine steam cleaned which has f**ked my alternator. She is an 02 plate dynamic. No air conditioning.

I picked up a alternator this am from a 1.2 fiat punto and it doesn't fit so was wondering if there are differences and what to look for

Pulley driven by a rubber belt , there are grooves on the pulley that the belt grips on.
Air con ?
Power steering?

Ok if you are getting one from scrap yard look out for the same number of grooves on the pulley and that the bolts that hold it to the engine are the same sizes as your car.
I think you will also have to get one from another 1.2 16valve engine.

46530261 is the fiat part number of the one I think you need.
Do a Google search of that number and see if looks right.
You could also try it on eBay.
Or look on eBay for punto 1.2 16v 2002 alternator check picture make sure it's the same.

Don't worry if Search of number come back with a different fiat model as long as its a 1.2 16v

Answer to your original question is no.
automatics and manuals do not have different alternators

It may have made a difference due to the increased load on alternator due to the Electric power assisted steering.
Far better to have all the info than have a missing part .

All fiat puntos use electrical power steering
Very rarly u see a 1.2 8v with manual rack

The mimimum is 60amp on early versions
There were 65 and 70 amps versions too!!
As for physical differences on non ac setup is very little...

Need some pictures to see why yours dont fit...
As non ac use a 3 bolt slide to tension setup

Where a/c versions use a fixed 3 bolt setups and a automatic tensioner

the original poster has already told us
1.2
16v
2002 year
no air con
power steering

in eper The 16v alternator part number 46530261 is not listed for any of the 8v engines.
Therefore it is likely the alternator that doesn't fit is from an 8v.
There is only one option for the 16v engines.

Do you know why it has a different part number?
I'm not saying you are wrong , I'm curious why part numbers different.
