If old cable snapped then use the old cable to pull the new cable through the bulkhead or even easier p pull out old inner cable cut nipple off new cable feed through bulkhead from inside the car then either brase on a new nipple by the catch or do as I did and use good quality 30amp cheese block connected,its a 15 minute fix the cheeseblock way

Sounds like a good cheap idea
Alternatively use a cable from a fuel flap release in a scrappies or another punto cable if they have one
