I have a 2002 punto, 1.2L 8v, 82k miles on the clock. Recently whenever I accelerate in 1st gear, when I hit exactly 2700rpm I lose power for a second. The engine doesnt cut out but the rev counter drops instantly. It only lasts a second or so and then drives normally again. Doesn't happen in 2nd or 3rd up to 3500 rpm.

Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

Thanks!

Check engine light coming on? Or flashing

Are you able to code read to see what happens?

Is it on a cold starts up it does it
Or it also or only does it when hot?

Ziggy

No lights of any kind coming on.

Does it from cold and hot.

Will be able to code read late next week but not until then.

Sounds like a loose electrical connection is humming. It happens at a particular combination of engine speed, load or engine tilt and road speed. Possibly a screwed down terminal like the earth on top of the gearbox, the ecu earth on the TB.

Have realised now that the same thing happens in second gear and neutral at just below 3000rpm.

So to recap: Whenever I rev to approx 3000rpm in any gear, I lose power for a fraction of a second, the engine management light flashes on but goes off instantly.
Plugged into the MultiECU scanner today. No faults recorded (even when the engine management light flashes)
The only parameter which was reading as abnormal was the 'Lambda 1 stats After Cat' - which was open loop instead of closed loop. The lambda 1 signal was giving a reading throughout though.

If anyone has any idea of a possible cause that'd be great thanks!

Did you ever find a solution? Mine does the EXACT same at 3k rpm... VERY strange..

Hi this seems very similar to what i am experiencing . Was there an outcome to this issue?
Many thanks Gav

Hi no its all through the gears as long as its above certain revs.
Thanks for your reply
