Hi back again with a question if anybody can help.

Is it possible to buy either an original fiat key fob or a 3rd party key fob and use on the existing central locking ?

Bought car of my brother only one key blue but no fob my dads had a look around the car he is a mechanic and said there is an immobiliser and alarm system in place all wired up

as far as I am aware The central door locking is independent of the immobiliser even though they exist in the same key fob.Correct me if I am wrong

So would it be possible to use a blank key fob fiat/3rd or would I still need the 4/5 Security code like you would if I was to programme an actual key blade ?

03 Active Punto Mk2

Thanks

Right 3 parts to a key

1 - mechanical blade
This is what turns all the locks and allows doors to ipen

2- a tiny glass tube
This is the immboliser chip, without this punto crank and crank and crank and wont start

3- a little pcb and battery
This is the remote central locking

A basic key is items 1 and 2

You can have just 1, but it wont allow engine to run as it shuts down the coils and injectors

I just paid 60 or 80 cant remember now for a new basic key as mine failed

The new key has to be programmed into the vehicle, if its not it wont work

Not strictly true for the immobilser chip. If you have a good working key ther are replacements that can be programmed to replicate the code from that key making a clone. The car can't tell one key from the other. Does not work with all systems but does with many and a lot cheaper than a OEM key and reprogramming the car. Timpsons can do some of these, a specialst can do more.

This is what I am after ziggy I don't need or want a key I only want a Fob to remotely lock unlock the doors my question is can I use any blank fob and programme it to the already installed central locking system

or would I still need a code like you do when you actually want to clone a key blade

Or is there a security code for the central locking system like there is for the immobiliser?

Or would I be best in buying a hawk remote central locking and do it that way ?

Thanks

Right so youve got a basic key
And central locking
But want to make it remote central locking?

Hawk make a kit - never tried it tbh.... but yea might be what your looking for
Going oem isnt worth it...
You may be able to find a meta remote kit. They were after production kit that fiat fitted if customer requested rcl

Thats what ive got in mine

Yeah pal I have got a standard key no remote function but the car already has standard fiat remote central locking I think the original key/fob has been lost overtime so left only with standard key

That's why I was wondering if I could programme a blank fob just the fob for locking unlocking don't need the key part.

If that's not a option could I still install a 3rd party remote kit if there is already one installed ?

Thanks

Ive got cl
But 2 basic keys in my current mk2b

And my ild mk2 'x' 2000 plate was same

I added a aftermarket locking kit to the old mk2 and it worked okay mostly
Obviously ive scrapped thay car along time ago

I'm curious about this too, as the previous owner of mine snapped the blade of the original key (which had RCL), and got a new one made (without RCL). I suspect FIAT could make a proper RCL key with proof of ownership, but would likely cost ~£200...

Ok Mate thanks for that

Just to add I am going to install a hawk central locking unit as there is already a remote locking in place so don't need a full kit so this will work.

Would you know How I would get the existing alarm to work ? will it just work once I install the hawk to the existing system or is this another add-on I am going to need

If so all alarm systems I see on eBay amazon etc all come with an immobiliser do I 100% need to install a new immobiliser to use a 3rd party alarm ? or would locking/unlocking the new central locking activate the old alarm ?

Thanks
