Hi

So, my Punto has a problem. The yellow bulp symbol is on in the dashboard, but all bulps are working fine. But, when I put my car in reverse the rear fog light turns on together with the reversing light. And when I turn on my rear fog light, the reversing light turns on together with the fog light.
Any idea why and how to fix it?

Thanks

Youve already had a reply to your other thread.

So at what stage of electrical switching does the yellow bulb symbol appear..??
Normal lights..or just fog/reverse deployed..??

Hi varesecrazy, yes I saw, thank you. I just wanted to move the threat to the right section, but wouldn't just delete the old threat before you saw my like on your comment.

The yellow bulb is constantly active, nomatter which lights I turn on. if I was to test your reply in the other threat, which bulbs would I be changing? The foglight, the reverse or both?

Hi,
Do the lights come on at full brightness or are they dimmer than normal?
If they are dimmer, you likely have a bad earth connection. If they are full brightness It is a short circuit in the loom between the fog and reversing light wires. Less likely but possible is a faulty body computer or light switch.

CONSTANT..? or on all the time lights are employed...??
As an example..if you fit standard uk break light bulbs..the warning will only flash on when brakes are applied.

So if its CONSTANT.. there must be a power source independant of switching..!!

IDEA.
Pull the fog light fuse..what happens?

G8rpi: They both come on with full brightness, so turning on fog light provokes the exact same reaction as putting the car in reverse. Are there anything I can do about that myself?

Varesecrazy: Yes, constantly. I just pulled out the fog-light fuse. No chance there, so maybe I am looking at two individual problems?

If they come on with the ignition..independent of switching..then probably a lost earth elsewhere..

If you unplug 1 light cluster..what happens

I just tried removing the light cluster with the reverse light. No change, the light is still active from when I turn the ignition.

Reverse light switch could be stuck in the closed position even tho youve not got reverse selected

As for why the fog light comes on as well... thats seriosuly odd...

I need to sit and study a wiring diagram as they share a common supply somehow...

How do you mean stuck? The reverse light only turns on when I put the car in reverse, but then the fog light also activates. Like if they were connected somehow.

But there is a protection hood on? Is there anything I can do to test the theory?
Either the bypass relay is at fault
Or there is wire contact in back (odd because 7pin dont include reverse light)

You can always spray the 7pin down with wd40/super tt / duck oil etc to repel and protect
But if be lookin at temporarily disconnecting any bypass relay fitted (should have a bypass relay on a punto to prevent bulb malfunction light been on)

I'm afraid I'm not an electrical wonder, but is there anything I can do to check if that is where the problem is? And thanks for helping!

WD 40....dispel any moisture from the socket[/QUOTE]

Alright, that at least I can do! Thank you to both of you, I'll give it a try and then get back to you with the result:)

Sit and thinking here

Is it the standard 7pin connector u have (trailer lights?)

If so reverse isnt tapped into
Unless ur like me and have wired it uo anyway incase i decide to add a reverse spot light in :D

Either way... in thoery it shouldnt be wired into reverse si tbh id skimp on towbar been at fault...

Id be pulling light clusters out and just doubke checking other else is a miss
