i have a problem on my Punto 07. After replacing the gearbox, the car throws up a speed sensor fault and doesn't allow the car to drive above gear 3. Pls help anyone

2007 makes it a grande punto
Not a mk2 / mk2b

Is it auto or manual here?

If its manual it probably wont have a speed sensor, as its done off the abs sensors combined/average speed

As im almost sure all grandes will have abs

If its an auto, it needs to know input and outspeeds to determine correct gear ratio selected (what gear its in)
If a sensor is dropin out its signal, the cars driving blind and yes probably loose power due to incorrect calculations

2007 could still be a mk2b punto

I am referring to the speedometer sensor on the gearbox. The car had a fault witg the original gearbox. So the current gearbox is from a 2014 model. But the problem is when driving, as soon as its supposed to go to gear 4, on the dash it says speed sensor fault, and basically the car doesn't accelerate anymore.
My car is a 2007 Punto grande with selespeed.

What's the "speed sensor fault" that you're seeing?

There's no device called a "speed sensor"... unless you mean the speedometer sensor (on the gearbox).

Yes, i am talking bout the speedometer sensor on the gearbox.

Firstly, you have posted in the Mk2/2b subforum, but your car is the later Grande, so the query would be best asked in the Grande subforum. Then you are more likely to get answers from fellow owners.

As you've replaced the gearbox from an '07 model, with one from a '14 model, there is a possibility that the speed sensor is different. That could present a real can of worms.

If the old and new sensor look similar, fitting the old one into the new box might work. If they look different, don't try it, as if they foul inside the box the debris may damage stuff.

It is possible that the speed signal given is different, and the car cannot read it properly, or that the wiring connectors are not in the same order in the newer sensor. It is doubtful you'll fix those issues.

I have reposted in the Grande forum. As I haven't submitted a thread before, Im sorry for the mistake.

Thanks
