Hi (new to forum) hope someone can help. I recently had a replacement engine fitted to a 2003 mk2 1.2 8v. The replacement engine came out of a mk2b q.2 8v. The engine looked to be identicle and had all the sensors in the same places ect (well from what I could see) and swapped over very easily. Problem I have is that the speedo and the trip computer aren't working at all everything else on the dash is workingfine and car is running fine. But I do have an engine warning light on but I'm hoping that is related to the speedo problem. I've checked the speedometersensor wires for any damage and loose connectors ect and can't see any. The speedo and trip computer were working fine before I had the engine changed and it's the same gearbox that was in the car before the engine was changed. :bang: Any help much much much appreciated

Thanks

Might be a bit screwed with that as I don't have the old engine. Not sure what to do now lol. I Know the manifold is off the old engine and the speedo sensor in the gear box is the same one but that's about it tbh. Not sure what to do now lol

Mine doesn't have abs. I did ask before I bought the replacement engine if it was compatible and was told it was a straight swap and was told it would go straight in (which it seemed to do).

Yes it's connected. Ive had it on and off several times Made sure it's clean, checked the wires for damage and checked the connector to see if anything is loose ect. I know the car it came out of had a slightly different speedo sensor connector IE it was straight were as mine is more of an L shape if you get me???? I'm lost as to why it isn't working everything else on the dash is doing hat it should just not the speedo or the trip computer. It's not ennoying at all lol

Already done that on a dlphini program it originally brought up 3 faults 1 was injector number 4 which was a dodgy clip so I sorted that 2 was air flow which I sorted that and the last one was engine management which I'm hoping is related to the speedo problem. I'm gonna try and get a new engine loom from a mk2 and swap it over cos I've read that the looms from a mk2b might run the speedo from the abs sensors or have I understood that wrong? Everything on the car is running as it should other than the speedo, trip computer and the engine warning light that is on (I do have the power steering warning light on aswell but that's nothing out of the norm for a punto) lol. So plan is to change the loom and then if it's still not working change the speedo sensor gonna do loom first cos it's the cheaper of the 2 lol

How can the ECU know the engine is different? Why would ABS make any difference if only the engine is changed? The key seems to be why the engine management light is on where the Delphi program is giving no information. Presumably the free download of MES is going to give the reason the engine management light is on?

How can the wiring loom change solve the problem if the engine is running without problems??
