Interesting Gear Changes

I'm a pretty new driver, my first car is my beloved mk2b 1.2 8v active.
Now, maybe I'm just weak, or maybe my gearbox is screwed, but I find it super hard to change into second sometimes, especially from 1st to 2nd.

Did anyone else struggle with stiff gear changes when they started driving?

My instructors car has super smooth gear changes but I figured thats just because its a new car.
So as anyone else had this problem? Or is my car just old?

it should go smoothly to second gear

It could be numerous things

A - You're not selecting 2nd, but hitting like a gate
B - 2nd gear Syncro is ****ed (possible punto's do get ragged)
C - Clutch is dying, its not disengaging/allowing speed change (would affect all gears though)
D - The Wrong gearbox fluid has been used, when cold = hard, warms up = Easy
E - Cables binding?

Tbh - Mines tight on a cold morning, cause of the fluid i've got
But, once warm its smooth as butter

Cheers, I think it might be the fluid because sometime it will change fine.

I remember stiff gear change, only when cold. Them garages are a bit carefree when filling with the correct oil. Yea like I just put engine oil in when I did that cv joint (early qwik fit days)

is it worse when cold..?? that's a good diagnostic tool
