Tuning Advice about groove disc

I don't have experience of drilled or slotted rotors on cars.
The theory about slots is that the rotor becomes a centrifugal impeller like a pump. It lets gas and debris escape from the pad face at the expense of greater wear. Presumably the more slots the greater the cooling and the greater the wear.
To the best of my knowledge you have to be on a track for more than a few laps to notice the difference that slots make over plain disks. Pad materials have improved a lot since the slot idea was tried and there is probably a lot less gas being produced in the newer stuff so the point at which you see the slot benefit is even further away.
I think that the point at which you get braking benefits from slots is also the point where you need high temperature brake fluid as well.

I have drilled and grooved discs with Green stuff pads. Installed those 1,5 years ago, still like new :)

Things to consider are

Sure putting "better brakes on" is a good idea

But what are you looking for from the brakes?

Are you regulary towing for example, which puts strain on braking - in which case Yes Better airflow brakes are a worthwhile upgrade
Preventing them overheating causing brake fade and potential loss of control/crash

Better brakes will only show the pit-falls of whats next weakest on the car

Say you have the worlds best brakes - you'd need the worlds best tyres to make use of them brakes worthwhile

Take the 8v like me

i can very easily Lock the wheels up while braking in most conditions
When loaded - unloaded - going up and downhill etc

Is there ANY point in fitting ""better brakes""
No, there is none
All it will do is enduce locking up alot easier

And dont say - I have ABS, so that aint a problem
ABS is to prevent the wheels locking at the point there ABOUT to lock up

So if the ABS is kicking in - then you've got the best out of the brakes to start with, Making them ""better"" wont help at all

Just food for thought my friend

Idearly you spend your money on tyres and brakes as they are what stop you best

But you may find fitting Decent quality pads such as Brembo - Ferodo - Mintex - That Greenstuff - with quality steel disc's

You may find that is all your going to need

No point chucking money into brakes that actually aren't going to help

MTEC is made China! it doesn't look like a real steel (cheap cr*p metals) EBC and Nitrac are made in England so I perfer the EBC

Don't be fooled, today, almost all discs are made in China, even Brembo Max is made in PRC....
So 99% sure that EBC comes from the Far East as well
I am very satisfied with the Mtec grooved only, black coated discs together with Ferodo Performace pads and Hel brake lines on my Alfa Romeo GT jtd.
Outstanding brake power, long life and affordable pricing.
I'm on my second set in 200.000km's and I do a lot of (very) hard driving, and braking, on the German, "no speed limit" motorways...
After speaking to Mtec engineers, they adviced against drilled grooves for my application, because they can crack under heavy load...

I know EBC built and 100% made in Northampton factory and Nitrac disc made in Cambridgeshire factory I have been in. Whether you believe me or not is true, while your next change try EBC are amazing than any other brakes (y)
