Hi Guys, Some of you may remember my duologic problems from about 12 months ago, now all ok thanks to your help, so whats the problem I hear you saying.Well I now need a clutch as mine is slipping. I have had a quote from the garage I usually for mots etc. They quoted £360 inc vat that's not bad I thought and booked it in.When I arrived they realised it was a duologic even though I had told them before they quoted. So back home and ring around 3 garages said no thanks and one never came back with a price. I have now found one interested enough to talk to me and quote. £557 in vat the only problems is that they may not be able to reprograme the ecu even though they have new software costing £6k in which case the car will need to be transported to the local Fiat dealership to be set up another £300ish with transport etc what to do the car is on a55 plate and has done 114k. I am sure I can fit the clutch but can the free software on line set the gearbox back up. Have any of you guys done this? or is it up for sale for spares do you think. Look forward to your thoughts Thanks Sollie

Hi Flisko the garages I have spoken to are not worried about the mechanical side its being able to reprogramme the gearbox ecu afterwards. The last garage that quoted me seem keen to try out their new software as they have never done a duologic befor. In your experience do you think it can be a DIY job as I don't suppose even though the car is in good condition that it is worth more than £1000 (in full working order that is)
More cars these days die because of electronic faults than mechanical ones
Regards

It's not the ECU needing reprogramming, but that it needs to have it's self-adaptive parameters reset and a specific test carried out for it to learn the new biting point (pulling away from a standstill @ 20% throttle).

Worse case scenario, it should still be driveable to the Fiat Dealership if the garage's software can't manage it- it takes a fair amount of space to do the test in safety, so we used to have to drive the car around to the local quiet industrial estate to perform the bite learn.

Hi, Can I ask where in the country you are ? My local Fiat specialist is now a whizz with Dualogic. (Teesside ) I believe that it is probably just by driving the car with a new clutch the ecu itself learns to adjust the clutch. There is a web site that gives the complete set up, but unfortunately I think you might need an 'Examiner' My local garage used to be a Fiat agent but no longer is although they have 30+ years experience.

Hi Danny and Dave, I am in Kent Dave a bit of a drive with a dickie clutch Im afraid. Interesting Danny to hear that the system relearns the settings for its self, does this mean that being handy with spanners I could do this myself or at worst then be able to drive it to the local dealership to fine tune the system what do think.? Apparently the fiat clutch kit is only about £20 or so more than a pattern part that euro car parts supply so the garage informed me. So if I fit that and have to go to the fiat dealer they cannot say any problems are down to pattern parts.

If you put ' fiat-dualogic-m20-training-manual.pdf ' into Google it will take you to a New Zealand website where you can download a manual which tells you everything you need to know.
I did this when I was having clutch problems, took a print off to my local non agent Fiat specialist, they fixed it in half an hour. Hope it works for you.:)

Thanks Davy I will give that a go and let you know how I get on, thanks again I have been thinking I would have to scrap this little car.
regards sollie

Hi Davy I have tried to download the info but can not for some reason if you still have a copy could you post it on here or if you would rather email it to me I will send my address to you cheers sollie

Sollie - back to basics,

is it a mechanically worn out clutch.. ? or the system needs bleeding and recalibrating( to re-establish the "bite point")

out of interest how many miles on the car..?? and what year / registration..

The relearn/calibration process has to be initiated via the diagnostic software, all I'm saying is if necessary you should be able to still drive it to a Dealer, although it may be a little snatchy on pulling away/gear changes as the biting point will now be considerably sooner than it has learnt before.

From what I remember there's no external method of bleeding the clutch- it's a self-contained system and any bleeding is performed via the software.

Thanks for your replies chaps, thanks Davy I will give you a ring for a chat about this, varesecrazy the car has done 114k miles now and is on a 55 plate, as far as I am aware it is original clutch as there is no record in the service history. It is jerky and slips if you use too many revs. I have never bleed the hydraulic system though.
thanks all I really appreciate your help

Hi All Well I finally gave in to my better halfs suggestion that I take the car to Kwik fit and see if they could replace the clutch and reset every thing, they said their system could check it and reset every thing. The guy took the car away and was gone for nearly half an hour when he came back he said I have a gear box leak which he thinks is spraying oil on the clutch plate, but no problem they can fix and will give me a price the following day. They duly rang me and told me their tech guys at head office said don't touch it, so back to square one. Looks like Im going to be working in the snow oh joy!

Hi, Sollie, If I was you I would find a specialist Fiat garage (not an agent) , ask them if they have a Fiat Examiner, and if they've never done it before , refer them to page 23 of the M20 Gearbox download (as advised before) . and if they are giving a reasonable quote for clutch change and gearbox oil seal let them do the job , or if you have DIY skills try and borrow an Examiner. I don't suppose any of the available OBD examiners will go as far into the Dualogic gearbox as you would like. There again I don't have one but perhaps there is someone on the Forum who knows. Best of luck!
