Hi my punto mrk2 1.2 16v is losing power when u go up hills but is OK on strate flat roads any one got any ideas thanks

any lights on dashboard?
did you plug it to computer to check error codes?
head gasket ok?

Head gasket ok no lights on dashboard and no codes and it revs ok out of gear it's just going up banks it struggles

im to bet its going to be a deterioating coil pack

Under no load / low load the coil packs are coping just

When you floor up to go up a hill / have a load, the coils aren't able to provide / provide enough juice for a healthy spark

resulting in a poor/no spark situation, resulting in a miss or no power output

Tbh i'd try a new set of plugs and leads as they are the cheaper option
Buy decent plugs like NGK / Bosch / Champion
HT's - £20 is an average price (euro car parts have them on offer at £10 or £15)

If that cures the issue great
if not - i'd be looking to test the coils / get a live data read out for them to see how long they are taking to charge up when under load

Just had a similar problem with my daughters 1.2 16v punto mk2b, she was struggling with changing into 2nd gear just our of our estate on a slight incline. gradually the jumpy revving got worse.

Replaced the coil pack, HT leads and new plus (decided to do oil change and add some old to the gearbox), now a completely different car !

A mechanic who lives opposite said straight off it was the coil pack

I used a local motor factor, all parts above plus oil filter £84

The sign of a failed coil is
Under no / low load its perfectly fine but step on the gas with a load and it faulters fails is due to a breakdown of the internals that cant cope with a large load
