Currently reading:
Technical I have been a buttock

Piston to bore clearance should ideally be 0.030-0.050mm.
Connecting rod clearances should be ~0.010mm.
Remember to check wear on the crankshaft itself as well.
I'm assuming you know how to measure both of these.
Torque for main bearing are 20nM + 90°. Connecting rod bearings are 20nM + 40°.

Thanks Brinker - actually this is going to be my first bottom end rebuild so any sage advice (including how to take these measurements) would be appreciated
 
Why is that....cheaper to get a low mileage engine off ebay and split it ??

I thought so my self but now I have a bottom end it seems a shame to waste it.

Also some nice cheap pistons on there.. I can get the bores honed cheaply so I thought it would be like a complete new bottom end. MAtch that to my new head and I have a brand new engine.

Still may be overkill...what are everyone's thoughts ???

If you can say do it for all under 200£ then its should be okay

But just sticking new parts in doesn't always mean it'll be good for X miles

Tollerances are cruitial to how the engine runs

To tight - it'll seize
too loose it'll knock
