Bough a mk2b today (54 plate) with 'a blown head gasket' couldn't complain at £100, since it's fairly clean. 1.2 8v, fix it and sell it on, easy 300 quid profit. Got the head off, 2 melted Pistons, 2 valve seats have dropped out the head. F**k sakes like, gonna have to break it and sell as spares to make my money back, anyone after any bits? As I said it's the face lifted on a 54 reg, 5spd gear box, just over 100,000 miles, all body panels are tidy, (except the bonnet as its covered in stone chips) power steering column is good, and it's the dark maroon red colour. 4 good wheels and tyres. Anyone need anything off it? I live in Carlisle, on the border of Scotland, in Cumbria

And you know what caused it?
Give you 1 guess.. It begins with: seized cooling fan.

i'd just drop a 2nd hand engine there

My advice - disconnect wiring loom from fuse box, battery
Disconnect All pipework for cooling and tie them away after draining coolant

Drain gearbox and engine oil
Remove drive shafts
Hitch crane up to engine and gearbox - remove 3x mounts
Lower lump to ground
Raise car stupidly high and pull engine free

a rug is your best friend too!

Nah, after what's been done to it already ive decided I'm just going to cut my losses, somebody has cut the fuel lines to drain fuel, literally butchered the under side lines and the pipe 6 inches off to fuel rail. Bloody ridiculous like, can't be assed to fit another engine and fuel lines in a car that's gonna have a **** tonne of other issues. So I'm gonna take the bits off it I need for my mk2 sporting (check straps, and a few other bits I need) so if anyone wants to come up and rob some bits before I weigh it in, go for it
