First post here, tried searching the forums but couldn't find what I'm looking for unfortunately.
Anyhoooo, some a*** thought it fun to crash into my little punto and bugger off without giving details.
I've attached some pics of the damage from different angles. It's okay to drive if it's just me in the car, and can take a second light passenger in the front before it rubs onto the actual tyre. Speed bumps are also a pain to go over. Three people inside and it just sits on the tyre itself basically.
I bought the car for £600 10 days ago, and took it to a garage/body repair shop today and they came up with a number of £900 to repair it and that it needed replacing. I have no idea about cars, I don't care what it looks like as long as it drives and functions, so my questions are - Is this an outrageous price? Do I actually need it replacing or can it be beat out/suctioned maybe? Replaced cheaper with a scrapyard part? Any other methods at all?

Feel pretty down about it since I'm a new driver and don't really want to spend more than the car was worth repairing it, so any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :D

Somebody did that to me once years ago and for sure it did not feel good at all! I even saw them reverse back off the car but could not get out of the house in time to chase them and get a look at the number plate.

That is not an easy repair. I think it can be done with DIY methods though but that metal will have to be pulled outwards and it will take a bit of work to do that.

A body shop would cut out the damage and put in a new panel, then repaint it all to match.

£900 is actually quite a low quote, we had a similar repair done on our HGT Punto a few years back with no where near as much damage and no need to cut out panels to repair them and the total cost of that was over £1200

Thanks for all the advice guys, getting it sorted tomorrow for £30, unbelievable price and obviously that £900 garage was trying to 'take me for a ride'. I'm a novice car owner but I'm not stupid!
Nothing pretty just having it bumped out so it's not over the wheel arch and I can use all of the seats again :)

Side note - this forum is awesome and you guys were very helpful, thanks again! (y)

£900 to replace the 1/4 & paint it is about the going rate. It's not a 5 minute job so just pushing it out is your best option.

I don't think they were trying to take you for a ride, they quoted for a repair, if all you wanted was the dent pushed out then you could have done that yourself in 20 minutes with a rubber mallet

Once the dent is pushed out so everything is where its sort of supposed to be (which is most likely what £30 gonna get you)...You could always buy a tin of P38 filler, ....a lot of filling and sanding to get it right and then prime and paint....can be done easily enough just takes time to get it right. You can most likely do that part yourself
