Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum.

I have a 2003 1.2 8v punto which revvs itself whenever i change up gears. It seems fine at idle, and this only happens when changing gear out on the road or when moving it around the garden

So far i have cleaned the throttle body, used diagnostic software, checked the alternator and checked to see if the Throttle Position Sensor is working, and all seems fine. This phenomenon occurs when i put my foot on the clutch. The revvs shoot up and hold at about 4000, sometimes higher. My foot is nowhere near the accelerator pedal when this happens. Its bugging me big time now :bang:

Has anyone got any ideas? Help is REALLY appreciated.

P.S. Im fairly knowledgeable with cars so im able to do the work myself, just need a tip as to the direction i should look in.

Thanks in advance,

Sorry I don't know these cars but I had the same problem on my GP and it was the clutch pedal sensor ;)

Thanks for that. Ill have a look tomorrow to see if i have one, and i may try disconnecting it to see if it makes a difference. People are saying it holds the revvs up for a second to enable smoother gear changes, maybe mine is dodgey and is forcing the revvs up? Who knows? Worth a look at though...

Thank you!! :D

mk2 clutch manuals dont have any sensor or anything there im affraid

So there isn't a sensor to change

since its the 8v, its a throttle cable, which means its not anything electrically based

However it could be the clutch pedal is catching on the cable? cant see how though

You need to see if by pressing the clutch its manually opening the throttle somehow?

Ziggy

Cheers. So far ive checked the throttle cable to see if its frayed and catching on something, but it isnt. I dont see how the clutch could catch on the cable either, But ill investigate.

Something else ive noticed is that my car seems to have cruise control, the problem has worsened and the car pulls itself through the gears sometimes too. I was travelling up a slight hill the other day and the car was maintaining speed. I wasnt pressing the accelerator at the time.

So discombobulated now :confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

The car is pretty much undriveable until i get this sorted out once and for all!!!:((n)

Thanks for your input Ziggy :)

It doesnt actually have cruise control, it just acts like it does. The car drives itself with only steering input required, as if it had cruise control....Sorry for the confusion :/

UPDATE:

I've borrowed a throttle body from a friend with a 2002 8ver, and so far so good. This leads me to believe it's the sensors, so i'll just buy a second hand one provided this does the job. I've an NCT on Wednesday, wish me luck!!! :D(y):slayer:
