What issues would I face sticking a mk2b engine in a mk2a car? The only obvious thing I can see is the nearside engine mount is different. Is it interchangeable with the old one? Can it be adapted?

Thanks,

Jon

The engine mounts mount the same to the body
So i cant see why you couldnt keep the new mount with it :)
play it safe

Looms might be different - no biggie, just gotta swap them over to keep issues away :)

Cam sensor, again wiring loom dependant
If one isn't fitted, then just leave the sensor in place and dont connect owt

Hey Ziggy thanks for the reply,

Yeah the loom should be no problem. It's a cam sensor type engine. The mount issue I was worried about can be seen here:

One has 3 bolts into the lower mount section whereas the other has 4. Good to hear they mount the same onto the body so should go smoothly!

Yea the mount that actually goes onto the body is the same

The mk2 to mk2b is the same chassis, just different wings, lights, slam pannell, bumpers and basic wiring changes to accomodate it all

So if you keep the whole mount - i cant see an issue tbh
The engines should be the same though, but all it takes is a revision somewhere and your in trouble, play it safe
