Right, so my (for my Niece) Punto MK2 arrived today so when I go to plug in my Diagnostic PC only to find the connector in the fuse box isn't the standard 16 pin socket.

Where do/can get a set of adapter leads so I can turn off the air bag warning lamp on the dashboard?

Right, first off I an idiot. I was trying to plug the OBD2 lead in upside down! Doh!

So finally got the ECU to read out and I'm getting a Passenger side air bag exclusion switch circuit open error.

Any ideas? Is the switch knackered or what?

What the problem is is the wiring. If you search punto how to on youtube there is a video on there how to replace it. Very simple and the part is £8 from fiat dealer

Thanks for your help. A trip to my local Fiat dealer tomorrow it is then.

Lol, I nominate this for post of the week :)

Wouldn't be the first time I have done this. It didn't help that the socket is not the normal trapezoridal shape. It's rectangular with a lug on either end. Thing is my diagnostic kit came with a bag of adaptor cables, & after reading some of the posts here it appeared there were a set of coloured leads for specific applications.

My Delphi DS150E found all the same errors as the Fiat scan software.

AFAIK the sockets are all a standard.. it's the wiring ( to specific pins) that changes;)

Ah ok, well thats a valid excuse then. I just had images of you somehow managing to force it in upside down!

Well, popped into Fiat dealer to see about the wiring loom modification part & got the shock of my life. The original part no 51786225 has been superseded by part no 71777054 & is no longer made by Fiat. The price has rocketed to £54 but I found an original part on ebay for £19. Item no 171657555230. Genuine Fiat part too.

Got a service done today. Spark plugs are a pain to get to but all the rest was good. No rusty sump, bonus. ECP didn't have the rear wiper blade so ebay came up trumps again at £4.30. Changed the battery as the previous (or dodgy garage) had stuffed a 063 batter in the tray. Pressure washed the engine as there is a slight oil leak from the rocker box seal. So now just waiting on parts to finish. Next will be the MOT & repaint of the hatchback top. The lacquer has lifted & the paint is shot.

Hi have you already ordered the part? Thats fiat just trying to rob you. Surprised they didnt try to just sell you a new car. They still do the part for £8 because i ordered it a couple of weeks ago. First fiat dealer said same to me but second orderes it straight away

Yes I have ordered the part, Cost is not really a show stopper but £54 for a couple of wires & a washer is criminal.

My old Lancia Delta Integrale Evo used to cost a kings ransom in service parts, not to mention tyres so am kinda used to Fiat/Lancia/Alfa prices.

Modified airbag switch cable arrived today, 3 guesses what I'll be doing on tomorrow afternoon.

A huge thanks to all those FF members that helped out with the airbar problem on my niece's Punto Mk2.

Spent an afternoon dodging the showers but managed to install the replacement loom modification, cleared the fault codes in the ecu & I now have a Punto Mk2 without the airbag light on the dashboard anymore. The only thing the guy in the video didn't explain was what to do with the wires that were already in the wiring loom. It only instructed me to change one wire (pink/green) in the airbag ecu but there are in fact two. Or what to do with the old on/off switch connector. In the end I just insulated the ends with tape & wrapped them into to loom. Hasn't caused any issues so I guess I did the correct thing.

Once again, many thanks to you all.

hi can any confirm that this part is still available from the fiat dealer?, not having any luck with the main dealers near me ,only place I can find selling the part is a ebay seller for £54.

So to clear the airbag light I ned to buy some leads off ebay, download some software and find somewhere on the car to join all together?

There is not likely to be a loose wire / joint somewhere I can just wiggle and make it go out?!

And presumably I need it gone by the time of the next MOT?
