So, I've got a little JVC stereo in my Mk2b active 8v. It was all working perfectly.

Recently I was tinkering with the passenger side mirror adjuster, whilst listening to the radio. I'm not sure if this is a coincidence, but the exact moment I closed the passenger side door, the stereo cut out.

It now displays the message "Miswiring. Check wiring and reset unit."

Things keep going wrong with this darn car! :bang:
I know nothing about Punto wiring... Can anyone advise?

Sounds like it's went "safe mode"

Don't know about JVC but I used to have a kenwood in my grande, that I wired up new door speakers to, one of the wires came off the speaker and was touching the metal of the door which made the unit go into safe mode, so yeah worth checking speaker wiring as you may have disturbed something when 'tinkering'

interesting, radio and mirror connected, did you try to pull radio out and unplug all connections and plug in again

I did, that didn't solve it.

Okay, I'll check the speaker wiring. I suppose I could have done.

if its an aftermarket Stereo, there shouid be a 'Reset button,
normaly, apaper clip or pen 'nib is needed,

Id check the 'wiring loom to the door for Breaks /chaffs,
or disconect it just to test see if its causing the 'problem,

Okay, the little reset button doesn't do anything so obviously the problem is still there. Although once I've reset it and I put the stereo back in, I can hear the driver side woofer receiving power but not the passenger side one.

I'm am not very knowledgeable yet about car electronics. Where do I find this wiring loom? How would I go about disconnecting it?

wiring loom?

in between door and post,
as you open door look at the gap and you will see it,

there is connector ..just pull grey Tab upwards and it will unplug,

Is the Radio actualy wired up properly.?

Okay, thanks.

I don't think the radio is wired up properly.
It worked before this message was being displayed, but I seem to have some parasitic battery draining going on and I'd bet on the stereo.

There's a loose wire round the back, doesn't seem right...?

Too me it looks like someone has wired the radio up the ignition and instead of taping up the bare wire has just left it. You are very lucky that the wire hasnt touched the metal cage.

I would do as oldhammer said. Disconnect everything get a new iso adapter and wire it safely so it works off ignition

Who fitted the radio?

its Bad,

theres a posibilty of an electrical fire there for sure,

Id unplug it, and have it wired up properly,

the Red stray wire..with bare copper..is live.

it needs all unplugging, straight back to the original fiat connectors,

the stereo wiring then needs to be sorted,

if your local to manchester, drop us a pm..

seriously..unplug it all, wiring is very easy to fizzle..and it can cost more than a car is worth..in worst case scenario's as it can end up with a dashboard removal, and wiring loom repair or renewal,

not worth the risk, take battery lead off and rip it all out..start a fresh,

That's not what I wanted to hear :( , but thank you.
I'm nowhere near Manchester :( I am a little overwhelmed with the flurry of problems that have just popped up. Do you know of any members local to me who'd be willing to help? I'm in Hertfordshire...

I would be more than happy to help but im in staffordshire off the M6 so no closer than oldhammer

If there is no one im sure the members on here will guide you through it all. Im pretty sure Ziggy122 has a guide on stereo wiring.

Okay, well where do I even start? I have some electronics knowledge but I just don't know what to do - where things go.

For example, I can unplug the stereo but I have no idea where those cables end up and I can't follow it back to the plug 'cos there's a whole load of dashboard in the way. I'm also slightly concerned to be removing parts of the car to get to cables because I don't know a whole lot about cars and don't want to do anything wrong... but I want to learn. I hope the collective patience of all of you is enough to accommodate that... :p

If it was me i would buy a new iso adapter off ebay for your radio.

What alot of people on here have done is connect the radio to cigarette lighter. So on the new iso adapter cut the cable that says ignition 12v. Then run a cable from here and connect it to the live at the cigarette lighter. Feed the cable down the back left corner of the radio hole as you look at it.

Hope that makes sense haha if you look in the guides there are in depth explanations but thats all you need to do. This will make your radio turn on and off with ignition and i think your radio may have been shorting and created this issue

Okay, thanks :) That's the exact kind of response I was hoping for.
So I'm correct in saying this bad wiring has been draining the battery? It's a brand new battery and it's just completely flat after a few days.

Yes more than likely because the radio has never been turned off fully. The iso adapter should split into 2 sections one controls speakers, etc and the other is the power. All you need to do is connect the ignition to the cigarette lighter as the cig lighter comes on and off with ignition. And leave the permanent 12v connected to original wiring as this stores presets and that kind of stuff
