MOT is looming and the tyres which came with the car may need replacing. They currently a mixture of chinese no-nme brands

Car = Mk2 Sporting (1.2 16v)

Current tyres size = 185/55 15 although the manual gives the option of 195/50 15 which therefore is presumably not a problem to the insurance company if I decided to go up a width.

So, any rcommendations as to which tyres best suits the car? Summer tyre only, have set of winters

I was thinking Avon ZV5, Toyo Proxes T1R, etc. but open to all / any suggestions..

I guess it depends on what you use the car for,

Roundtown..shopping cars, budgets are fine,
Motorway etc, then id go for the more expensive stuff,

ive just Ditched 4 x Budget tyres, Westlake,
and had 4x new Michelin energy tyres fitted..

alls good with them but believe it or not the Budget..Westlake's where more Quieter.

have alook at the Reviews on the www. before choosing.,
your local tyre man might be best to ask,

In 195/50/15, you don't have to have to go expensive to have a decent set of tyres.

I did a lot of miles (over 75,000) in my Punto, so went through a few sets of tyres on it.

I preferred Uniroyal Rainsport 2s, I've also had T1Rs because everyone on here raved about them. They were good, but the Rainsports were a little bit better.

Ultimately though, on these cars, any of the decent brands should see you right given the right maintenance.

For the sake of your own safety, I wouldn't ever bother with budget tires. Not even if you're only doing driving round the town.
Stick with well known established brands - not necessarily Bridgestone and Continental; Uniroyal, Hankook and the likes are fine. Just stay away from LingLong's and other Chinese/budget brands out there.

I have had very good experience with Uniroyal and Continental. Semperit and Pirellis ok but not as good as the others. Tried a Koroman once. They were alright except a flat was unrepairable because of blisters on the sidewalls and it wasn't driven on the rim. Fairly certain this wouldn't have happened with a Conti.

I am running my hgt on 195/50/15 with Bridgestone Turanza T001. Currently stock (and new) suspension and coilovers, handles great.

3 tyre sizes used on a punto
165/70/14 steelies
185/60/14 alloys
Or
185/55/15 alloys

195/50/15 isn't in the manual so its a modificatiin

Im currently on a full set of uni royal rain sport 3's

The new rain expert 3's look pretty good tooo

No quibbles with uni royal
Ziggy

Well this made me look at the manual again and Ziggy is quite right. You can fit the wider tyres, but only to the fiat optional wheels which are 6 00j x 15" - 37,as opposed to the standard alloy wheel which is 6.00j x 15" - 33.

So it will be the 185s for me which is a pity as the others are £10 cheaper!

Roads travelled are fast b roads and some town / motorway. Split about 80, 15, 5 per cent.

Choice seems to be between the Toyo T1R and Hankook Ventus V12 Evo. Both about £45 from tyre leader.
