Many of us use fuelly - the fuel calculator

Well i've fuelled up and its given me a little statistic its got

Punto Fuel.jpg

The average everybody's getting is about 34mpg combined cycle driving
You know what - i would say that its spot on for the L4 (Petrol engines - so 1.2 8 and 16v)

Discuss - Do you agree or disagree?

We get 9 miles per liter on very mixed driving, mainly short trips. That's about 41 mpg. On the occasional long run it's better, heading towards fifty at times, downhill, following wind and so on.
By modern standards it's not great but for such a free revving, nippy motor it's not bad.
I'd say you're a bit light on the 34 average. looks more like 37/38 to me.

You can get 51mpg out a punto - but i was on the motorway a hella long time - teasing it to sip fuel not guzzle it

But yea - ima little on the lighter side due to my driving habbit and often short runs

Not sure how to work it out but I get around 200 miles from full tank to half way, not sure many litres a tank holds but I'm happy enough with my return

Neil

Well if you were interested, fill it up, drive as usual, note the miles travelled when you next fill up, and the litres used. Divide the litres by 4.45 to get gallons,. Divide miles travelled by gallons to get mpg. Or get fuelly and a smart phone and just pop 3 numbers into it each time you fill up.

What i find is this

The first 1/4 gives me about 130miles
2nd 1/4 gives me about 90-110miles
3rd 1/4 gives me like 75miles
last quater gives you like 60ish

the guage i do think drops 10x quicker nearer the bottom

yet the reserve seems to last ages before suddenly dropping pretty much

I've averaged a healthy 17.9km/l (50.5 UK MPG) over the 5000kms I've owned my Punto until now.. But I have 34km to work and back (so 68 total), where I (unless late), just stay behind a truck on the motorway. My work place is close to the motorway, and so is home - so it doesn't really qualify for mixed driving - and I rarely do trips into town.

You can get 51mpg out a punto

You can also get 57..

I borrow an electrical way of looking at things, rms value.
My rule of thumb is to divide the average on mixed driving by 0.7 to get an estimate of what the car is capable of achieving in best conditions.
So 42 mpg average would indicate that 60 is being achieved at times.
