I have recently bought a rather sorry looking MK2 Punto Elx.

It has a few faults, but the most important to me is I have no radio!

*factory fitted cassette
*No power, screen stays blank

I've checked fuses...ones I believe relate to the HU, everything seems ok. I've noticed that the cig lighter hasn't got power.

Is this a common issue? Or can anyone point to any fuses I may have missed.

Or is it going to be a HU out job and check The loom with a MM?

My suspicion would be that the previous owner installed an aftermarket stereo and messed with the wiring, and just threw the original HU back in there to sell without testing it.

I bet they hard wired to the cig socket and the wire has probably snapped or shorted

Recheck all fuses again

spoken to previous owner, (middle aged) and they said they didn't have a different unit. However they didn't bother with radio. They mentioned that it used to ask for its code. Since I've had it, its never had power..

The cig lighter is also dead too

I'd definitely be inclined to take the radio out and check the wiring behind it, the last owner might not have done anything with it but a previous owner probably did.

Yup Cig lighter, doesn't work.... Fuses all okay so wiring must be shot. Haven't taken out the radio as of yet. Will be a job to do when I've got no work to do!
