Hi , i very limited knowledge with cars , but my exhaust this evening started making a lot of noise , so i looked under the car , you can clearly see the box part in the middle of the car has come away from the pipe that leads to the engine.

do i need a whole new exhaust , or can i just ask for that part replacing...

how much is it likely to cost to have a new one fitted / the part fitted i need ?
 
Indeed just like that, sadly though I am not sure the garage will do welding, more of a replace it place, but I can ask, what should I say to them?
 
I personally would not drive it if it hanging low to to floor, if it is scrapping on the floor definitely not. Im not sure how police would react to this, they could pull you over for the noise and i dont know if it is illegal due to emissions and safety. But i would get it it welded if the rest of the exhaust is in good condition but if it is rusty or cracked or holes then i would replace the whole exhaust, it shouldn't be too expensive either :)

Brilliant ty for your advice, I shall have a ring around in the morning, only thing I have to drive home tonight, I presume slowly
 
Yes drive slow with low revs to avoid attention if going through busy areas, and if the exhaust pipe is scraping on the floor , take alot of care reversing( if possible avoid it) and i will check a price now for you!

You can pick up a whole exhaust for under £50 off ebay, and they are easy to fit, just remember lube is your friend, use it on the rubbers it will make light work of the job :)
