You a mk2 or a mk2b?

The heater goes on and off - in what sense? a bump in road and you loose it all?
You loose only 1 speed? you loose everything but speed 4?

Need more information like that

Like I could turn my car on and they will work then I'll stop turn my car off and they stop completely a d when I turn it back on they don't work and they come on when they please all the speeds work and don't stop on a bump in the road and I got a 2003 mk2 1.2 8v

what he tried to say was, he doesnt want to get scammed in garage

No it's not that it's just I'm sure a few people on this forum have had this problem and fixed it permanently when as if I go to a garage they might sort it and then like a week after they stop again

So if you left them switched on while running - you turn the ignition off and go to the shops
you come back - and turn igntion back on and there dead

Believe it or not, slamming the doors is a possible reason why there one minute and not the next

I believe you may have a poor connection somewhere, bit odd though, it isn't affected while driving though with our lovely pothole filled country

Try tapping around the switch and around the lower portion of the glove box once its failed, and report back to see why might have sparked it into life

A couple of things to try and pin it down.

1. When it's not working try wiggling the fan speed control about push and pull against it to see if the fan suddenly starts working

2. Look up under the dash on the passenger side at the condition of the wires going to the fan speed resistor and the fan it's self

Usually the speed control has broken or the wiring is burnt and breaking down, I had a very similar issue with my grande with burnt wires to the resistor pack (more an indication of excessive heat than the actual problem) causing intermittent problems with the electrical connectors behind the dash

Worst case is this sort of thing can lead to fires so definitely get it sorted sooner rather than later

i've had 2 resistor pack faults with the current punto, Both have been connectors overheating and melting

The main issue is overuse of speed 3 for very long periods of time, the heat just builds up and builds up - then it melts plastic, this makes the connection ****ty, making it a resistance connection = Generates more heat
and see where its going? its a continual loop, it even goes open circuit or it sets fire

my advise is to skip speed 3 and use 4 if demisting, if not - leave it on 2 and leave it alone :)
