What 'tuning box' exactly.

It's a dtuk one

It is snake oil, throw it in the bin

On A turbo diesel a remap would offer higher performance depending on the level of existing tune and condition of the engine. It does this by giving more boost and appropriate fueling.
If you have any doubts about the engine condition I would not bother to do it. If the engine is in great condition, it should be fine.
If you do have it done, decrease the time between oil and filter change to 5000 miles. or 12 months max.

Ah ok is remap the way forward?

These engines are very 'de-tuned' so all fiat 1.9 punto engines will benefit from a remap
Your 1.9jtd is an 8valve 79bhp engine

The 1.9HGT was 100bhp same engine, the multipla again has exactly the same engine with 115bhp and when fitted to the grande punto the same 8valve head was producing a 130bhp so it goes to show there is a lot of room for improvement. On top of this grande owners are not adverse to having their cars remapped past 150bhp without engine work beyond an induction kit or exhaust so it's a very robust engine, just a shame the same can't be said for the gearboxes

Fitted it does see to work but can smell unburnt diesel and bit of smoke

It is snake oil.
You could achieve a similar result by using a resistor in the ETC line!
Nothing to do with filters etc. Throw it away to join magnetic fuel saving devices and 12v superchargers:rolleyes:

Where does this "box" connect?

If it piggybacks any of the sensors like Engine coolant - Mass air flow

chuck it
They dont help, they actually try to mess with the fuelling and often make it worse

For example, if they mess around with engine coolant and make the engine think its cooler then it is
it injects more fuel - on a diesel its slightly better vs a petrol

But if its getting poorly burnt or not burnt at all, it does something called Borewash, the injected fuel wash's the bore (cylinder walls) leaving no lubrication = metal on metal = Rapid engine wear

Ziggy

Is the only difference between the JTD's the mapping? Mine have 86 hp and some have 120. I would like to get it to 120 also.
Can I swap a part from another car to get the rest of the HP?

It won't fit, difference between JTDs are heads, turbos, injectors, sensors and a few other things. As fair as I know the 8/16v blocks are same, Punto mk2 has the smallest turbo/injectors ever fitted to a JTD engine. By using Fiat Stilo 115 parts you can bring the Punto to 150hp. Also only Punto mk2 and some early versions of 80hp Stilo didn't use a variable geometry turbo so you would need an expert to get a variable turbo to work on a Punto ECU. I've seen it done but for most people here is may be easier just to get a Stilo 115 ECU, if anyone any information about tuning JTDs ask me
