I've got a 51 plate Punto that is a CAT C write off. Damage isn't significant, but the general state of the car is such that its negligible it being worth a whole lot once done.

However a mate of mine has a 54 plate Active Sport MK2b Punto and the engine has just lunched itself.

So i'm wondering if the MK2 1.2 16v Engine will go straight into the MK2b Punto? Is it a straight swap or are there differences like there was with the MK1/MK2 Engine mounting on the 1.2 8v?

Ta in advance.

Was hoping for a quick response on this please, otherwise I lose the other car.

Remember these are canbus engines the ECU in the mk2b active sport isn't going to be compatible with the 16v engine from the older car, the wiring is going to be different and so are sensors, you might have to swap out all the body computer and keys locks etc and manually wire other parts in just to get it up and working its a lot of work and expensive if you can't do it your self.
You then have the added issue of explaining to the insurance company why the engine has an extra 8 valves and wait for their over worked calculators to add a few more zeros on the end of the premium

As the Mk2b is using a very common 1.2 8v engine would be far easier to find another engine and just swap the mechanics

You misread my post. The MK2 donor I have is a 1.2 16v, I mention a 8v simply because I remember Fiat changed the location of the drivers side engine mount between the MK1 and MK2 Punto, and didn't want to be caught out with something similar.

So basically, if I bareblock the donor engine from the MK2, and fit all wiring and sensors from the knackered MK2b engine, it should be fine with no other additional worries?

I know nothing but I have the mk2b and my factory fitted 1.2 16V 188A500 engine was also fitted to mk2's so that covers engine mounts

But I only have electric wires between my accelerator pedal and the throttle body of the car - this is no carburettor, and presumably for different engines the fuel amounts for engine revs have to be remapped to operate the injectors properly, so swapping over a different engine might be just too difficult to be worth it.

Really? You're over selling the difficulty.

The ECU controls the injectors and their spray duration, no remapping is necessary?!?!?!!?!

All I simply need to know is if I bareblock the engine and swap all ancilliaries from the MK2b engine to the MK2 engine, is there any revisions that will stop this.

I've worked on lots of cars, and 1.2 Fiat Puntos are some of the EASIEST cars in the world to work on, i've converted MK1 Selecta models to manual, really, this job isn't difficult, I just need to know whats different.

You give up far too easily :D

What do you mean by that? No mapping required? or of course remapping is required or something else?

NO mapping is required, absolutely ZERO, what a waste of money.

If you're running the same ECU, sensors and injectors and throttle body, what makes you think you need a remap?

All thats being changed is the engine, all the sensors and stuff from the MK2b engine refit to the MK2 engine, it becomes the same.

Its not a racing car, its not a hot hatch, its a 1.2 16v city runabout.

Well I did say I know nothing.

I was supposing you would have to keep the mk2 manifolds and could not easily bolt on the mk2b stuff
