scrap man wont give much for it,

someone out there..might be on the hunt for an engine they can hear running.

You were right about that they offered me £60 :O I have had a different offer of £100 from someone else, I think I'll take it as the car's just taking up much needed space now

£100 is a bout agood as your going to get for it.sadly.

Just rember what isaid..seriously make sure you cover your self when you sell it,
selling a cheap car can bite back..there are people out there that will drive this about..if it ended up stuck in the side of something it will be your door that will get the knock first.

Ok Would it be best to write up a waiver sort of thing and get this other person to sign it just in case something does go wrong?

Don't let them drive it away.

My god, you are not selling highly enriched Uranium lol :)
A simple note saying -
Received, £XXX for vehicle registration XXXXYYYYY
Vehicle is declared category C write off.
Purchased from (Your name and address) date
Signed. (by the buyer)

Print name and address.(Of the buyer)

Thats all you need. You dont need to waterboard them ;)
If they want to drive it away after signing and paying, absolutely not your problem.

isnt it?

you will find it is. the car is a write off not roadworthy.

ive had trouble with selling a car (cat-c) in the past
iknow what im talking about.

other person needs to cover them selfs end of.

Hi,
Definitely not. After they pay, and sign the receipt which states it is a cat c, your responsibility ends. It is a simple transfer of ownership and responsibilites with the legal state of the vehicle described and they sign for.
It is no different to selling an ironing board in reality. ;)

Personally i would do what oldhammer said. Because id rather give too much info them risk not covering myself

It is a sale, just like any other item. A PRIVATE sale. Simply record the details on the invoice. To do any more is pure folly.

Absolutely not the sellers responsibility, and just because its written off doesn't mean it can't be driven on the road either.

CAT C means "uneconomical to repair", that doesn't equate with unsafe to drive. A dented door and wing on a MK2 Punto is enough to write it off, doesn't mean its unsafe.

Case in point, you can still drive the car until the MOT runs out or the Tax expires as the current owner, and considering also that the VIC check is HISTORY come end of October, its really not an issue.

Get a receipt to state the car is sold as a CAT C write off, spare or repair, detailing sellers name and address and buyers name and address, how they get the car away is entirely THEIR business.

Also filling out the logbook is no bad thing, because what will happen is DVLA will be informed of the attempt to change keeper before a VIC test, previous keepers details come off, and the logbook stays in limbo, but the DVLA now know who has the car, as they ALWAYS send a letter informing of the need for a VIC before a Logbook can be released.

But like I said, come October, the VIC check is gone forever

Hello everyone, our friendly local mechanic ( the guy who sold me the car in the first place) has said that he is interested in the car for parts, as he gets puntos in all the time and the spares would be handy :) he's offered me £120 for it.

£120 for a scrap Punto is VERY good, scrap prices are on their knees right now, and even the genuine Fiat catalytic converters on the Puntos are a load of poo as well, so take the money and run chap :)
