Hi

I have a Fiat Punto 1999 ELX 16v

I have problems whit my temp sensor. It is not moving at all but i get no fault codes. What can be the problem?

Please.

If you leave the car idling for a period of time - do you get any heat at all regestering and any heat in the cabin?

A stuck open thermostat - will take donkey ages to warm up, as a result, the guage may never move up

Ziggy

It is just like this... When the car is standing still ideling the temp is going up.

But when driving the pin doesnt move ant the heat doesnt come.

What shall i do??

Your thermostat could be stuck open.

If you wait at idle will the temperature needle come up to halfway on the guage ?
If you then start driving does the needle fall back ?

If yes to both questions then it's almost certain that the thermostat is the problem.

I second Brendan there, classic stuck-open thermostat. Get it sorted soon too, the thermal stresses of the temperature changes cost me a head gasket in my mk1 Punto. Nipped it in the bud on both my mk2 and Focus before it caused any problems, quite an easy procedure to swap thermostats. My recommendation is to use a genuine Fiat thermostat, the pattern parts are usually no good in Fiats.

Today I went out to the car and started it at idle. It was on for 30 minutes and after that time the temp showed 40% temperature . From the fan came hot air. When I got in the car and drove fell the temp meter to 0 % and from the fan came only lukewarm air. I have the past few days had problems with a red engine light but after the above bag is no longer lightend ???

From what you have said it can be the thermostat.

In the pic below the thermostat is a little green in the edges?? The tempsensor works? When idle it moves so it can not be broken?

Looks like the thermostat is the problem. After 30 minutes here the temperature guage would be at halfway and the fan would have come on to assist cooling. I imagine you have lower ambient temperatures in Sweden , - 10 C , in which case it could take much longer to come up to the middle or may never reach it.
The green at the edges could be a sealer that someone used in the past when replacing the thermostat. It is common for cheap thermostats to fail shortly after replacement.
Can you explain more about the 'red light' and the 'bag no longer lighted' ?

Ok. I will change the thermostat. Shall i fill the system whit new coolant or replace whit the same?

The red engine lignt comes on from time to time. Right now it is lightend and when i left the car idle and it got hot the light disapered. It comes agin after a while. Cant find any fault codes....
Were i live the car is parked in a hill and when i stop there the light no longer is lightend. (bag was a typing misstake)

depends when you changed antifreeze last time, word on the street is that blue and green is supposedly good for 2 years, while red, pink is good for 5 years

which red light?

Red engine light is lightend. Can it be connected to the problem whit the thermostat?

New thermostat is comming in 2 days.

Today i changed my thermostat. I drained the coolant fluid and canged the thermostat. The old was wery dirty.

When i have made the change i started the car and drowe for about 20 minutes. The temp sensor worked and heat was comming from the fan.

And.... no more red light.....

(y) Thank you guys
