Hello everyone!

I have a problem with my Punto 1,2 16v, 2002.
In cold damp weather like now, it misfires badly when it has been parked the night over and the engine control lamp, lights up. It only last for half a mile or so, then all is back to normal.

I know that the coil is an issue on the Punto and I have changed sparkplugs, coil and leads. It is only when it is cold. As soon as it reach working temperature the problem goes away. Last winther I changed the leads again an the problem was gone. It has driven aprox. 18.600 miles since then.

The problem ONLY appears when it is cold and damp.

Is the solution to change the leads again or could it be a faulty cold temperature censor instead?

Check theres no air-locks,

the 16v run's like a bag of nails if theres an airlock.

Homeward had similar issues.. homeward.

not sure homey will reply to this anytime soon, :(

you mean coolant airlocks..??, so the temp sensors don't work properly..??

shame 16V leads are so expensive.. as they are a simple swap for diagnosis..,;)

worth checking the connections though..|!!;)

Merry Christmas every one and sorry for my absence!

A little up date. I have been gone on Christmas holiday and came back last night. Knowing that "la macchina" can be difficult to start, when parked for several days, I tried to start it up last night. It ran like ..... ****!
Since it has to transport my better half to work tomorrow, I was going to take at look at it today. Now the bloody thing won´t even start!!!

As I don´t have access to at tester, so I can read the codes and since we don´t have at FIAT garage in my city, I had to follow my gut feeling. So I bought a new battery and 4 new plugs, since I refused to belive, that the coil and leads was causing the problems. New battery and new plugs in and BAM!! It started right away and purred like a kitten! I tried to put a tester on, to see how mush it was charging then idling. It was charging 13,94v so I think my problem is the generator, which is not as good as it use to be. It should be charging more than 14v, right?

Thanks for the link flisko.
I went out and put the tester on, and turned on the light, the fan at max speed and the rear demister. Then the charging fell to only 13,7v. So a new generator is the way forward to solve the problem for good, I think.

i dont think your alternator is bad, when i put everything on, voltage drops to 13.4 but car still starts on first try every day

Okay. It is snowing realy bad her i DK rigt now, so I have to see if changing the plugs and battery can do it for now and wait for better weather.

Up date time!

I got a new battery and changed the generator, so it is charging now, but the car still runs like **** when it is cold outside and until the engine is warmed up.

I spoke to a FIAT mecanic and he said " Søren the 1,2 16v is hyper sensitive if the plugs and leads are not original FIAT parts. And when you change the plugs, the threads on the plugs, has to be absolutly clean! You must ONLY tighten he plugs with 1,8 kg/ 17,5 Newton! NO more than that!!"

So I did what he told me to do and the car runs perfectly now!??
The "old" plugs and leads was from NGK but that was not good enough for the little primadonna!
