Technical Full suspension change

Hi all,
I was just wondering if anyone knows how much a full suspension change would cost for my Punto?

It rattles and bangs around like crazy at the moment and is pretty uncomfortable.. If I'm thinking of keeping this Punto for any decent amount of time, I need the suspension doing..

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Rhys

Id find out whars banging....
Could be a broken spring which would mess the suspensions up

It could also be dead bottom ball joint or bushing

Investigate first

It found just be wishbones need replacing. If it was me I would go to a trustable garage and ask for a quote to sort it. They should then tell you what's wrong.

You don't have to get the work done there its just a way of finding out the problem and they will also give you a quote to work from

How handy are you with the spanners, even if you have to buy a few tools it will still work out cheaper than labour rates at a garage.

To change the rear suspension springs and shocks you need only undo 4 bolts, for this I'd recommend a long breaker bar a 17mm and a 19mm socket (I seem to think that's the needed size) and if you don't have one a good jack and axle stand set.

Jack the car up back wheels off, 4 bolts out releases the shocks and the rear torsion beam can drop down allowing you to pop the springs out very easily.
Pop the new springs in and put the new shock on with the 4 bolts and away you drive.

Shocks are no more than £25 each and springs about the same so to do the whole rear suspension £100 or there a bouts.

Front is a bit more complicated, lower arms roll bar bushes, shocks springs and top mounts, adds up to quite a few more £££ but if you do it your self it can save hundreds in labour costs and you can do it a bit at a time.

Front shocks £50 each
Springs £25ish each
Lower arms £25 each
Roll bar bushes £12 a pair
Top mounts £20,

If you didn't want to do it yourself then buy the parts a little at a time and then when you've got all the bits take it to a garage to do all in one go.

Agreed, those bottom bolts are a mare. Good 6 pt socket helps. Or impact wrench even better

And a lot of plus gas.
Impact wrench helps but won't often be torquey enough to get it started usually need to start it with a breaker bar

I've only seen once on this forum someone complaining of sheering one of these bolts, but the important thing is slow movements, no hitting spanners with hammers or jumping on breaker bars. They are very thick bolts I can't imagine the amount of force needed to sheer one

I snapped both my old bolts on my old rear beam when i smashed into the kerb

I had a lengthy breaker bar on it and when they let go - OH boy....

The rust on the end thats exposed got to the thread and i used torque bar to hard and it shattered it across the corrosion
