Hi there - this is a pretty simple question I'm hoping someone can help me with. Apologies for the long-winded explanation!

My wife's Punto has had a problem with one of the front doors which I've recently half-mended. It used to make a godawful series of CRACKing noises as you opened it. I realised that there is a 'corrugated arm' which is supposed to hold the door in two or three different positions. It does this by pressing against a corresponding fitting internal to the door.

What I realised is that one of the two screws holding the latter fitting 'into' the door had come half-unscrewed, and the other screw had been completely lost.

I therefore just tightened up the remaining screw (torx head) and confirmed that this was the cause of the problem ;-)

I now just want to source another bolt to replace the missing one. Thing is, can anyone tell me what size the bolt should be?

I don't want to remove the newly-tightened screw to check its size, 'cause I fear some fitting will fall out from the door.

I am guessing it's a 5mm HT bolt with a torx head, maybe 12mm long, but would be grateful for confirmation or correction.

BTW, if there's a better name for the parts I have been long-windedly trying to describe, then I'd be happy to hear of them!

Cheers

Hi its called the door check strap. To be honest its probably easier just buying a new one as you can pick them up off ebay for quite cheap. :)

Few easy things you can do

1. go to a scrapyard and get one

2. take the current one off to check, nothing will happen

, it's a non structural bolt so don't worry too much.

I wouldn't buy a new check strap, they cost about £25new, for the sake of a bolt

It doesn't have to be a torx either....

Also, take one of the 2 from the other door to check....

Thanjks all, now I know the name at least!

I tried a couple of HT bolts I managed to get hold of and the 6mm seems fine, so that's gone in. Door is *much* better, both the Wife and Granddaughter will be delighted!

Cheers
