Hi all,

I've just registered on here as im trying to do more of my own maintenance on my punto as sick to the back teeth of paying garages to do it!

OK so to the problem I have a 55 plate Fiat Punto 1.2 8v Active and the blower on;y works on 4. So after trawling the forum the consensus is on the resistor pack and after acquiring a new one from Fiat ive gone to fit it and found that the fourth pin has melted the connector and the resistor pack is totally rusted

Anyone know where I can get a replacement connector and how I go about replacing it ?

I have a soldering iron and some electrical tape for the job. Nearby I have a motosave and a halfords if they carry the connector ?

Any help greatly appreciated :worship:

You can bypass the overheated pin with a suitable big wire with either soldered connections or crimped. It needs to be done right or you'll end up melting things again. Fiat could probably supply a new connector or you could get another type. It's going to be difficult to get a used one in good nick as generally they are all on the same path and as you have found one goes with the other.

I get scrap connectors that are okay
There are some

You can push the good connectors out and into new plastic body
The damaged the connectors you have to cut off and solder on a decent new one

Ive had todo it twice
Once on the earth pin
And again on 3rd speed pin

When I get to my pc tonight ill add my blog link up for you

So I need to replace the pin and reinsulate the wire ?

Do I also need to cut the damaged wire and join a new piece on ?

Cut out anything that looks heated or off colour. The corrosion of the wire can extend back further than you think. Just cut back until the core wire is clean. If soldering insulate with heat shrink tube preferably.

If reusing the original plug with new pins use the same size to be sure everything will fit. If not you can use a bigger wire. Obviously nothing smaller than what was there originally. Everything will depend on the quality of the connections. What power is your soldering iron?
A 15 W iron in a draughty garage is not going to flow the solder in fast enough I would suggest.

Ok its a 30W iron I can just get the wire etc from maplin yes ?

i cut the connector and a good length of loom from the donor car - so that it'll be the right sized cable - right colour *most of the time* and fit like a glove

IIRC, the fans are fused at 30amps, so tbh, i'd be getting 30amp or more capable cable to replace with - hence why i used a scrap yard one :)
